I certainly hope! I'm still not sure about how I feel about knowing that part of my taxes are helping fund the continued existence of Windows XP.

Our military still uses pirated Windows XP. But it is a consequence of not giving money to some bases to upgrade hardware and as a result, those PCs are usually not even in any kind of LAN and don't have any connection. And majority of ports removed, cases sealed, etc.

I think filling USB ports with epoxy is actually a good idea for securing computers :D
ON ones I worked with back then, USB ports were physically removed and sealed.

good idea IMHO, USB is such a broad attack vector removing them solves a lot of problems

in theory such attack would be possible, but no reports about it and it would require the attacker to create a Linux version which would be additional work, so for now I wouldn't panic

what of course does not mean that you shouldn't take normal security measures

That's exactly what I meant, most of viruses are for windows, so .exe virus cannot harm Linux machines, am I right ?
in theory you can run some of them using wine, but I don't think it was done before ? but nothing stops people from writing linux-native viruses, it's just that ROI was not enough to work on it

Affected by this issue too. ?
Happened to me months ago when I upgraded to Fedora 25. Now is working fine. But in QA we saw this issue last meeting. Looks like it shows up often... :-/

isolated cases maybe? they both work for me
Not at all. We saw this issue in QA. It works fine for me with Evolution. But there's a good number of people who's having this problem with Google and Gnome online accounts, Evolution and/or Thunderbird.

Things to do
You can do anything with Fedora. Perhaps would be better if you tell us first what things you fancy. What do you use your computer for?

Actually I'm doing global certification.. So interested in administration
If you have a hobby or an interest besides your work, is very likely you'll find a programme for it too.

also it is present at schools, in offices, in companies, Windows is practically everywhere to the point where people think that PCs == Windows
I think now this is not completely true. Many places (offices, universities, etc) have Linux and most of people have heard of Linux, but they're convinced that is too hard to use it so they stick to the system they know. Of course, there are people who are professionals in certain areas where the software they need only works in Apple or Windows, so they can't change.

What are their usernames?
Ah, Itamar knew the Fedora Brazil one but I think he's not here anymore. Give me a moment, and I send you the other two.

@jflory7 This is Fedora L10n pt_BR . It's for people interested in translating to Brazilian Portuguese: https://t.me/Fedora_L10n_pt_BR

And this is Fedora Packagers: https://t.me/fedorapackager

It's not 100% true, but if you'd have to pick any school at random, any institution at random, any office at random, it is most probable that you will end up with Microsoft products. Schools teach MS Office, because that's what you'll use at work, at work you've got MS Office because that's what people know

They'll pass it off as a onetime thing and reinstall. And knowing most admins they'll reinstall xp

The Linux at the Desktop Day finally arrived.
Get Linux in the Stores before that is ever going to happen

also - let's not kid ourselves, if Linux would get 50% of userbase on the desktop, there would be such attacks on Linux as well.

Just like there are on Android now

Linux is not a silver bullet, and it also has many holes, that will get exploited when it will be worth the attackers time to do so; right now linux userbase is so small that it's not worth it

Dude, look at the server world.
Servers are usually taken care of by professionals, now imagine random people using Linux on their desktops. Same thing is going to happen.

Tobias?

The second you take over a linux server you have hundreds to thousands of users ready to download whatever you want or driveby exploit. there is a massive incentive doing so and there is very little success in it.

But its a heck of a lot of work

After going trough root/toor:22

Again, if you arent a breathing single braincell and use a 4 letter password to authenticate for root you are very unlikely to be hit by a random attack, especially if you keep your system updated

Martín
13.05.2017

But I think that less users than in Windows would be affected

With few indications

Actually, yes.
so switching to linux would make people more intelligent automatically? ?

but Windows provides updates as well, and does that automatically by default (mostly only for the os though)

Tobias?

no updates.

Fedo 24 - click to switch for free!

but Windows provides updates as well, and does that automatically by default (mostly only for the os though)
Again, You can run 50 vulnerable programs on windows and not know it at once.

And choco didnt pick up

I would kindly ask Fedora to enable the tiny "Install Updates" checkbox on shutdown by default if that happens tough
