It is as small as a 13" laptop but with a 14" screen in it, it means small borders around the panel.

AMD does the same and it's going to get worse in Zen where the CPU is going to try to predict your behaviour.
Imagine tapping into that.
And regardless your BIOS and most of your motherboard is still not FOSS so AMD isn't any better.

Xfce in general is pretty awesome; rock solid and fast. I hope the GTK3 transition will go on smoothly and without hiccups like we had with KDE4, but I doubt devs will do a whole big revolution like we had in KDE

Really? Intel collaborates with the Linux kernel and they even made a great Linux distribution: Clear Linux. Highly optimized and great for servers and workstations, their display drivers have always been the most efficient and the first to implement new OpenGL features as well as being open source, meanwhile AMD has only started caring about Linux a while ago and only after Valve took Linux gaming seriously. Now they want a piece of the gaming cake. Why do you say Intel is bad regarding free software?

Clear Linux clearly wins on most benchmark out there. I might consider using it as main desktop if my frequently used packages are in the repo.

Michał
24.01.2017
12:27:16
Isn't Clear Linux more proof of concept than a distribution, that aims to ever be a daily distro for anyone? IMHO it's more like a demo that you can get some performance gains with proper config, for other distros to see and adopt

天荣
24.01.2017

But it's definitely usable

Michał
24.01.2017
12:31:21
and when it comes to nVidia, one has to admit that their Linux support was consistently solid over many years, maybe no cutting-edge features available, but when you bought a new graphics card you was practically sure that it's going to work under Linux
of course no open source drivers was a big problem

天荣
24.01.2017
12:31:46
Agreed

Michał
24.01.2017
12:32:39
and I remember ~5-10 years ago I was specifically targeting nVidia graphics just because I knew it's going to work under Linux, while with ATI it was a lottery
and I remember Intel still had some problems

天荣
24.01.2017
12:33:11
Indeed.
This is why I have been a long time Nvidia client. Their Linux support was simply the best.
