Jaypatelani: Hmm

VVelox: aaron: What issues have you run into?

VVelox: wait, you mean on netbsd, not freebsd... n/m

<b>Quillasp:</b> aaron: How can I point to a custom mirror, for pkg_add ? I tried with PKG_PATH="https://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/distfiles//" but pkg_add couldn't install neovim

<b>Jaypatelani:</b> Quillasp: https://unitedbsd.com/t/openbsd-101-install-software/39 :)

<b>Jaypatelani:</b> Quillasp: Mirror list https://www.openbsd.org/ftp.html

<b>Jaypatelani:</b> Quillasp: Mirror list https://www.openbsd.org/ftp.html

<b>Quillasp:</b> Jaypatelani: there isn't neovim in, for example, http://mirror.switch.ch/ftp/pub/OpenBSD/6.1/packages/amd64/ And if I set ftp://ftp.usa.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/distfiles/ in the /etc/installurl, it will tell me that it couldn't find ftp://ftp.usa.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/distfiles/6.1/packages/amd64/ And when I do `export PKG_PATH="ftp://ftp.usa.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/distfiles/", it will tell me that it couldn't find neovim ^^'

Quillasp: I was wondering how can I set a custom PKG_PATH correctly ^^'

Quillasp: sorry, https://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/distfiles// instead of ftp://ftp.usa.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/distfiles/

Quillasp: my bad

<b>Quillasp:</b> Jaypatelani: does the PKG_PATH need an url with the $(uname -r) and the $(arch -s) ?

<b>aaron:</b> Quillasp: You can just hardcode the path. But it looked like you where pointing to the base directory for the US one, and 6.1/packages/amd64 for the Swiss one.

<b>aaron:</b> .:VMS:. (Telegram): The original probably has some weird public domain or AT&T one. Check the NetBSD source tree to see what their /bin/sh is licensed to.

aaron: VVelox: Which comment about issues? In the FreeBSD ports infrastructure?

aaron: VVelox: Cause the lua stuff is a mess in there, and I still haven’t had time to send in patches. :P

<b>Quillasp:</b> aaron: I originally choose the Swiss one in the installurl file. But I wanted to install the neovim package and it seems it's not in a classic path, and I'm not sure how to set it correctly with PKD_PATH

aaron: Where is it at? Is that just the ports mirror?

<b>Quillasp:</b> https://ftp.openbsd.org/pub/OpenBSD/distfiles//

<b>aaron:</b> I don’t know what that directory is, and I’m on mobile so I can’t check, but that looks like the ports tree.

aaron: If you manually download one of those and peek in it, is it just source?

Quillasp: Yeah, it seems so

<b>aaron:</b> I’ll go yell at someone in #openbsd:matrix.org, see if it’s actually in packages yet.

<b>aaron:</b> Someone in there has been portioning and maintaining it.

aaron: (As far as I know, the port works perfectly. But you gotta download the ports tree.)

Quillasp: Okay

<b>Quillasp:</b> But if I don't the tar.gz file, would I be able to install it with make install or should I follow the instructions in the neovim's github?

Quillasp: *download

aaron: Quillasp: Nah, it’ll be a package in 6.2. (It’s available in -current.)

<b>aaron:</b> And no, it’s part of the ports tree. There’s a little more infrastructure there then just snagging a tarball and building it.

I'm not sure, but they both have a lot of similar security principles being used. Would be difficult to say which is more secure with what I know.

"more secure" is subjective and cannot be quantified

More secure by default? XD

Security comes from user and not from OS. But OS can have good conf by default

[RSS Bot [@Jaypatelani:matrix.org]] Berkeley Software Distribution posted a new article: Not here to start a political debate, but to have discussion. I'm anti-copyright, anti-IP. I personally like the MIT/BSD licenses more than copyleft licenses like GPL because of my anti-copyright ideals. Thoughts about this? <b>aaron:</b> Quillasp: I don’t think you’ll get a non-political answer to the OpenBSD vs everything else question.

<b>aaron:</b> Theo was taking pot shots at the FreeBSD security team sometime after cperciva left over ssh bugs.

<b>aaron:</b> You’ve also got the whole capsicum vs pledge debate. OpenBSD won’t adopt capsicum because they think it’s overly complicated, FreeBSD is unlikely to adopt pledge.

aaron: Shawn Webb (Telegram): Do you know offhand what the state of libressl on FreeBSD/TrustedBSD is? (I’m pretty sure that one is completely non-political, just a lot of testing.)

Screen and display are different

Screen is the monitor. And display is more related about "the environment" or the pc

Display contains host. Protocol and screens

Now i got it

Display manages screen, keyboard and mice

<b>aaron:</b> I’m glad someone does. I’m still confused why a mouse and keyboard are tied to a screen, and why ejecting your mouse makes your display go away, taking your mouse and keyboard with it.

<b>aaron:</b> I’m sure that makes sense to someone, but I’m still trying to get it explained to me.

<b>aaron:</b> I’m pretty sure I’m looking at the same thing you’re reading about now, but from the driver level up.

aaron: (Which is honestly rather confusing and convoluted. Hopefully you can explain it to me. :P )
