and there are high spec chromebooks too

check chromebooks, theyre about as close to netbooks as you can get
theyre usually quite overpriced and i think the hardware is ridiculously low end. plus netbooks could run windows which has lots of software support unlike chromeos.
Anonymous
i wouldve gotten an 11 inch macbook air if the used prices werent as high as the superior macbook pros of that era and didnt lack the ports and upgradability other macbooks of that time had
Anonymous
chromebook bootloader can be unlocked without too much effort and you can install anything on there
yes. but like i said earlier i think the hardware in them just isnt that good in todays standards and because of that id prefer older intel macbooks (i have a 2007 13 inch macbook currently actually) because chromebooks tend to be quite expensive even when compared to macbooks.
Temmie
i think problem is not chromebooks being too weak but modern web being too heavy, haha
Anonymous

although i will say the white and black macbooks were quite overpriced brand new. $999 USD minimum and had terrible graphics and unless you paid even more you would get cd and dvd read but only cd write capabilities from the built in disc player. the one i have has a combo drive unfortunately.
Temmie
i dont think you need a particularly new one!
Anonymous
did you check ebay?
i looked on amazon

im sure theyd have even less ram and storage. i can only assume that ram and storage isnt upgradable.
Temmie
i dunno i am seeing decently priced models on ebay
Temmie
with at least 8gb of ram
Temmie
idk how taxes work and how much will delivery change the price so i cant tell for sure
Anas
That was a long list to read
Anas
Most of them were new info for me

i think id rather buy a macbook or thinkpad when it comes to the used laptop market

im thinking about selling this 2019 hp 15-db0088ca and buying a better laptop. its been very slow ever since i got it brand new. theres no way its just the hdd and 4gb of ram making it this slow because other computers i have with an hdd arent nearly this slow.

11 is bigger than 10
Chungy
From a "technical perspective" you can say that about any two consecutive releases. Like, that's just how software development works. 11 was based on 10, based on 8.1, based on 8, etc
Chungy
It's not a useful criticism or even observation in any real sense.

11 is bigger than 10
the iso file from the windows 11 media creation tool was about 100MB smaller than the 64 bit iso file from the windows 10 media creation tool. also i noticed that the windows 11 iso file on microsofts website is more than 1GB bigger which led me to believe i couldnt fit windows 11 on a single layer dvd until i tried the media creation tool.
Temmie
Really, based on what technical perspective?
windows 11 was developed as win10 update (cobalt branch) and insiders were actually using it for like over a year before reveal?
Temmie
both 10 and 11 have a build named 21H2
no no no i mean cobalt branch insider builds
Temmie
10 21h2 (19044) has nothing to do with 11 21h2 (22000)
Temmie
windows 10 has only been getting basic cumulative updates instead of anything major

one could say that windows 2000 finally got a successor 20 years later when windows 2004 was released

imgburn thinks im using windows 8 when im actually using 11. many programs like firefox think im using 10.
Temmie
imgburn thinks im using windows 8 when im actually using 11. many programs like firefox think im using 10.
because for compatibility purposes windows reports nt 6.3 in "deprecated" nt version registry entry
Temmie
and firefox thinks its win10 because major version number is still 10 (idk why wouldnt they just update it, haha)
Anonymous
it had a chance to be named 2003 if ms forgot about server 2003
windows numbering jumps all over the place because microsoft cant make up their minds over what they want to base windows version numbers off of

Sure enough, they did not start from scratch. So it's actually an update for windows xp?
Mark
Because they continue to develop it instead of start over

meanwhile macos dropped support for pre 2001 software in 2007, pre 2006 software in 2011, pre 2009 software in 2019, and will probably drop pre 2020 software within the next few years.

in 2007 it was classic macos, in 2011 it was powerpc, in 2019 it was intel 32 bit, soon it will probably be intel 64 bit. a lot of this is due to apple changing their cpu type. motorolla until 1994, powerpc 32 bit 1994-2005, powerpc 64 bit 2003-2005, intel 32 bit 2006-2006, intel 64 bit 2006-2020, apple silicon 2020-present. surprisingly itunes still supports windows 32 bit despite both ios and macos not having any 32 bit software support for several years now.

its more of upgrade to vista vista was one of the few times ms have actually rewritten lots of low level stuff

vista was a major change. just look at the iso size. it increased from about 600MB to around 3GB.
Temmie
it also got rid of the option to install on fat32
makes sense considering that even something like pagefile can be over 4gb on vista pc
Anonymous

maybe its because i was born in 2003 but i find it hard to believe that windows home editions had a 4GB filesize limitation until 2001
Temmie
there was nothing reasonable over 4gb for home users
Temmie
except maybe dvd rips? and even then dvds really belong to xp era
Anonymous
it didnt matter at all back then
ive seen games from that era or just a few years newer that exceed 4GB in size. grand theft auto san andreas was released in 2004 and was bigger than 4GB.
Temmie
yea and it was split in multiple files
Temmie
so it wasnt a problem for home users

for a home computer

the total size of a harddrive at the time was something like 10-20gb
yes. even xp used to have a 127GB hard drive limitation.
Anonymous
wasnt it win2k?
yes but xp also had it at first. it wasnt until 2002 when an option was added to remove the limitation which was in 2000 sp3 and xp sp2.

im thankful rewritable dvds eventually came to exist or else i wouldve wasted a bunch of dvds making modifications to get rid of the 127GB limitation in windows 2000 so i could use it with bootcamp and to fix the inspecting hardware configuration screen hanging

Yep, you're right. I was looking the released, not the master branch.
