but nope, no documentation, wizardry, mixed-language tables...

even table names switch german and english and case

Well, we found some views functions atleast and we have optimized it a bit ^^

Key fragmentation was: 99% now: 1%

Nobody ever ran a clean or updated/rebuilt indizes on this thing

is it bad to install apt on fedora to run deb packages ?
It's really rare that Debian programmes aren't available in Fedora.

Windows way, dependency hell and so on.
It's also like reinventing the wheel. There are already repositories to install stuff.

yeah it is , actually the companies doesn't give attention to rpm packages :\ , i don't know why but there is much companies support ubuntu at most and deb packages , but rpm u have to get it by urself or to be available on the rpm fusion :\ !!

it was the most widepsread system and still is that you can get cheap desktop paid support for

mint and ubuntu still rank top at distrowatch

This is because for a number of reasons, Ubuntu became the standard. For people outside the OSS community Ubuntu means Linux.

Tobias?
14.07.2017
13:59:22
so making sure your packages work with ubuntu will ensure most of the OSS world will be able to enjoy your stuff. Unlike Fedora where people will be mad at any propreitary blob - rightfully

Yes, but even with this tiny sample it ranks quite high. And keep in mind, ubuntu is still widely used in schools as teaching software (or versions of it)

Fedora not coming with rpmfusion or a question at the start to enable it with a short info page what it is kind of makes many people turn away

This is totally true. The OLPC project in Uruguay uses Ubuntu in their last machines, and I think in Brazil schools is also the system in use.

~ obtex

that's really bad , cuz most of the oss programmes is support the ubuntu system at first priority ! , they have to stop that !

~ obtex

14:05:56
Vitaly
14.07.2017
14:06:48
why ?
Because big OSS projects don't prefer any distribution.

Each distribution have it's own maintainers for every OSS package.

And this maintainers build packages for their own distribution. Not OSS project authors!

I don't think it's bad. As long as they're open source they will reach the rest of distros sooner or later.

Because Ubuntu has a more tolerant policy about non-free software: 'restrict' repo is built-in while rpmfusion is not.

Kohane
14.07.2017
14:16:20
Yeah, but that's a legal issue. Fedora as it's supported by Red Hat is US based. Therefore, it has to follow US restrictions. Ubuntu is South Africa based, therefore it has to follow South African laws.
