Yep, there are two ways: add it to kde's config files, replace with KDE's WM (didn't work for me), or a workaround with starting an i3 first and then launching kde with initial scripts.

What error messages did you get after kwin switching failed?

There were no errors: i just couldn't choose an i3 instead of kde's WM in settings after placing it to the needed place (don't remember an actual path).

another will pull in a shitton of xfce-deps

manually look trough that TINY list and install the ones you want
