They had a massive crowdfunding campaign and now have a patreon or some other recurring payment supplier aswell as yearly funding events

Weird, take a look at your system monitor if u on gnome, kill any terminal/bash process and try again

In the old BIOS/MBR days Windows used to wipe the 0 sector on HDD so reinstalling GRUB was enough, it required a chrooting via Live Media to reinstall the GRUB. In our actual days of UEFI+GPT I'm not sure if Window's wipe the ESP partition. I would say no, given I once help a friend to reinstall Windows boot manager after installing Fedora. After the process Fedora's GRUB disappeared but I was able to boot it by other methods, so I'm guessing it does not wipe the ESP partition, just set and point the boot manager to another OS. I think efibootmgr has an option for changing the default boot loader.

Depends, If you are using BIOS+MBR Windows need a least 2 primary partitions. If you already have 3 primary partitions created for Linux, then I'm not sure if Windows will install. If you are using UEFI+GPT
