Not really, i've met several that switched from oraclel dbs to mariadb - and from oracle jdk to openjdk to avoid licensing.

I'm not really a data hoarder even if I have some TBs stored, I keep my files in relative disorder, but keep caution to have useful and easily findable filenames

Trying to decide what system to install, Fedora, Debian testing or Arch. I want it with KDE and the laptop has 8GB RAM so speed is not a concern, it will be fast regardless the system.

Suse great with KDE, if yu want to choose between that 3, then Arch Linux for KDE. But, be carefull when updating plasma.

I remember once doing such a thing with kali where you can customize all your stuff ahead create your iso image on your usb and just stick in your usb for the full installation to occur automatically not having to configure anything

Disabling the nvidia. Especially with an 820m you may have equal performance or better from your builtin intel gpu.

Which cpu do you have?

Yes, the 820m cards are an utter ripoff and money making scheme that dont help you at all. :P

If you really want the easy way probably you should not use Fedora while enable the nvidia proprietary drivers

(Dont worry, even the HD 520 is faster and the intel hd 44000 still measures up to it)

So yes, you very very likely have a faster, better supported intel hd in your laptop.

Disable the nvidia for energy saving and use the (likely faster) intel hd.
