If you're gonna make a comment like that, at least attempt to justify it. Or better, don't make such comments at all.
if you want to find some reasons, google "fuck oracle" or "oracle sucks" and you'll find plenty of great reasons to hate the company.

besides, I don't see how the CoC applies to a company... I mean, last I checked, companies don't have feelings.

Oracle is shit...period. Use openjdk.
I repeat again, Robby here is almost ordering Kitty to use something else, because his choice is shit. The discussion here is to be communicative enough to justify why, this is about his behaviour, not oracle. And @notafile, you could do with reading the pinned message and the fedora coc

Oracle(l) hate over all their actions, destructive behaviour in the open source community and general douchery/lawyer intimidation is pretty justified imho.
This. I just attended the Open Source India Conference 2018 last week and Oracle was their to talk about 8.0 release of MySQL. Didn't seem like they're up for anything good.

Tobias is very strongly opinionated, for one xD.

How is their appearing for a conference equate to their not doing anything good?
vim rant.txt Well, it was an Open Source conference but they went on about MySQL for enterprises with its "brand new" High availability and scalability stuff. Didn't find it much in the open source rythms :wq

TL;DR Oracle has never been a good company. They are not good to the FLOSS movement.

openjdk is and always will be Open Source

and FREE!

Oracle Java on the other hand... they're now charging companies to use it

The last (in a large series of) debacles should still be on all our minds - where java se downloads are now default to a "no commercial usage" download, to force companies to buy for it when they realize its too late.
Yes, Oracle has a long history of shit behaviour. Personally, I think it's better to skip it all at once. Unless you're forced to use Oracle products for some very specific, unavoidable reason (like "it's used in my company", "it's my client's option and I can't change it").

I don't think so, but it's annoying to install tons of garbage just to see if it works.

I will try running it with proton today :3

Ah. Well, I don't game so Steam and so aren't a concern for me, but the last time I tried to use Photoshop with Wine, it didn't work. Only the old versions would work. And it would need A LOT of RAM.

those are all valid points

so as the alternative we have IRC which has a high entry bar for newbies, or Matrix which is... well, either someone would host it or it's a no go, I tried to use the official server and the speed was unacceptable

in my opinion, however sad it is, there's not much competition to Telegram when looking for approachable, casual chat platform

IRC's still great, even if it has multiple weaknesses. The ability to use Bitlbee to use Facebook Messenger via IRC instead of a crappy webpage is pure bliss.
