Hi all. Who is now on FreeBSD 14.2-Release, can you check if switching between TTY consoles via CTRL+ALT+F1 to F8 works for you? I switch, but I still have the picture from the graphical desktop, but at the same time I can enter commands into the switched console. Those. I enter my login and password blindly, I can enter commands, they are executed, but at the same time I have my last desktop picture.
I did update from 13.2 to 14.0 yestarday. I use KDE plasma and sddm. On 14.0 sddm was broken. Only tty was available but the screen was flickering....🤔 I was unable to even type login credentials....😒 I was pressing quickly randomly some buttons on my keyboard and the flickering was slowing down and then i was able to login and continue the upgrade process. But DE was still unavailable. Then i was updating to 14.2 and everything works again. 🙄😂

I was reinstalling drm even on 14.0 using pkg-static after kernel update.
need to rebuild the drm-61-kmod package from the ports

pkg version is not good? I use that one on 14.2 and no issue so far.
Tyler
You could also clean the machine sometimes
This is my sandbox machine....😏

I have decommissioned my FreeBSD box, now I can wave goodbye to this channel. Goodbye and thanks for all the fish.

Does anyone use p14s with FreeBSD? Does the sleep work?

I don't trust sleep/hibernation support on fbsd, I used a T430 for years with support until it broke it (the support, not the notebook) somewhere between 13.2 and 14.0

I am currently running FreeBSD on Core i17 1260P on an EVO platform. So far the PM is so good that I don’t mind sleep that much. But when its not sleeping, the fan constantly spins and spews heat. I can’t keep it in bag. I have to shutdown. I want to close the lid and move.
The BSD Guy
Same. I supports sleep. But when its wakes up, it just reboots for no obvious reason. No crash nothing. I run bhyve VMs and I don’t like reboots like this.
The BSD Guy
Never tried that. S4 is useless.
Baron

S5 it turns down the notebook, in the correct way
Baron
better than a hard reset after it got stuck in the resume process from S3
The BSD Guy
I will try.
The BSD Guy
sudo poweroff
Baron
sudo poweroff
doas shutdown -p now
Andrei Drusian
If I don't turn it off with -p, use -h or use halt, the power LED stays on on my T480 Thinkpad. I got it recently, I didn't see if it can be fixed with any configuration. halt is more practical :)
Baron
It gets stuck in a tty and the DE doesn't come back
Baron
I can't reproduce rn

On 14.2 release virtualbox-ose does not work? 🙄🤔 I was thinking the port version is patched as shown on freshports webpage, it has got this year january patch....and the pkg version i did install it, was on August of 2023 on 13.xx Release 🤔🙄 was working with no issue... So after i did upgrade to 14.2 and updated ports tree i was removing the pkg version of virtualbox and build the ports version. But after 3 hours of building -the build was at least succesfull- virtualbox still does not work. 😒
polyduekes
Hmmm...i see 🤔
you can git the ports collection and compile them with make install, that's what i am doing for now for vbox
polyduekes
Ok. Let me know how did went.
vbox is working fine
Tyler
vbox is working fine
👍 on 14.2 Release?
Tyler
yeah
I was using portsnap fetch install for updating portstree not git....this might cause the issue? 🙄🤔

idk about portsnap, but you can do make reinstall clean for already installed packages and if you have the src already

I'm new with FreeBSD, I need a direction to follow about the problem and I can't see any problem...

There is no hdmi output on sndstat output. Perhaps adding to /boot/loader.conf compat.linuxkpi.i915_disable_power_well="0" And full reboot, you can see the hdmi sound output
Rincewind
Kldload compat .... And see the result whit kldstat
Tyler
portsnap still works !?
Will work until 2026 April 30th

Kldstat loaded several kernel objects, I can shared here

gotta be nice for you to use stuff that doesn't break on updates
accelerat0r 🇮🇱 🇮🇱 🇮🇱
I've been doing sources for ages ! once in a while there are a few problems but nothing beyond that
accelerat0r 🇮🇱 🇮🇱 🇮🇱
usually prblems get solved quite fast
accelerat0r 🇮🇱 🇮🇱 🇮🇱
the onlty complain I still have is freebsd not supporting my sound blasters ! Im using ossv4
accelerat0r 🇮🇱 🇮🇱 🇮🇱
Do you also use a Gentoo?
yes of course ! this machine is actually running it
Daniel Sławek
Gentoo has renome that is very difficult. How much time is it have to compiling the upgrades?
accelerat0r 🇮🇱 🇮🇱 🇮🇱
as in freebsd compiling sources will depend on features added and of course the machine you preted to use it !
accelerat0r 🇮🇱 🇮🇱 🇮🇱
I have a iMac g3 running openbsd and a PBX runnining in a PIV with freebsd ! if I intend to do sources there I think unix end of times will catch up before is done
