I never had used to ports in FreeBSD, that I didn't need this
accelerat0r 🇮🇱 🇮🇱 🇮🇱
thats expected ! freebsd most of the time will give you kind of the features you will need in all its packages
accelerat0r 🇮🇱 🇮🇱 🇮🇱
in my case I need some stuff in asterisk and in other packages that are not present in the default package build so I need to do sources from ports
accelerat0r 🇮🇱 🇮🇱 🇮🇱
but my stuff might be specific

Any idea how to open gtk apps like gedit in jail? 🤔

Any idea how to open gtk apps like gedit in jail? 🤔
option A: spawn Xorg server in jail, for that you need video drivers option B: forward X over tcp socket to xorg server on host system
Rincewind
Use blackbox, minimalistisch and easy ro use windows manager whit xorg in the jail It works fast
Tyler
Fluxbox 😁
I donno that 🙄
Andrei Drusian
E16 It's also cool
Tyler
I will try Fluxbox in jail. 🤪😝
Arminio
I will try Fluxbox in jail. 🤪😝
Oh I do that a lot, it's nice for these tiny little noVNC jails I deploy
Arminio
Fluxbox is super cool for these things
Tyler

Also i want ssh for my jail but does not run. If i run # service sshd start it will starting sshd but after if i #service sshd status it will output sshd is not running...🙄
Arminio
If I wasn't drinking my 3rd beer right now I would offer some debugging assistance
Arminio
Do u use ip4 inherit?
No, the jail has its own IPv4 and is attached to my local network so to speak
Arminio
okeee :)
Rincewind
Bind the sshd to the intern jail ip and restart
Tyler

I want to port this: https://github.com/linuxmint/flags And it is basic download the files and move them to /usr/local/share. Does anyone here knows a port that is basic a github download and a file move? I want to use it as a template PS.: this is my first port
Baron
https://www.freshports.org/x11-fonts/nerd-fonts/ Maybe?
that's perfect, thanks
Tyler
FreeBSD group is available now in sxc as well. 😋 https://simplex.chat/contact#/?v=2-7&smp=smp%3A%2F%2Fhpq7_4gGJiilmz5Rf-CswuU5kZGkm_zOIooSw6yALRg%3D%40smp5.simplex.im%2FiB0t9o7L9O1D34piCyD1VWhAxtl_t0xm%23%2F%3Fv%3D1-3%26dh%3DMCowBQYDK2VuAyEAnaP0ao-kcmh2xgbME6txT0MbCqsbb1_al-2xfGabQ2A%253D%26srv%3Djjbyvoemxysm7qxap7m5d5m35jzv5qq6gnlv7s4rsn7tdwwmuqciwpid.onion&data=%7B%22groupLinkId%22%3A%22oKja56r06FFwR4H_ImVVXA%3D%3D%22%7D

group, I suggest holding any pkg upgrade for now: https://forums.freebsd.org/threads/pkg-2-0-0-problems.96540/#post-687371

Can pkg manager be downgraded if it causes trouble?
Tyler
i did #pkg update -f #pkg upgrade #pkg autoremove -y #pkg clean -a and now looks like does work properly.

hello everyone

Смогу ли я перенести оконный менеджер с Линукс в free BSD?
Это пылесос
(Have I been able to migrate the window manager from Linux to free BSD?)
Krond
This rather sounds like "were you successfull in" and is a question about your past achievements.
Krond
But yeah, why not, BSD has a number WM's to choose from.
Это пылесос

I have a window manager in Linux, will it work in free BSD? (I didn't really understand what you wrote)
Krond
Try searching FreshPorts, it might have been already ported. Or even deleted for being unmaintained for too long. Catching up would be much easier.
Это пылесос
I need to migrate the i3 window manager with all the settings and plugins.
Это пылесос
I use a few self-written Plugins on bash
Krond
Well, i3 is already available on FreeBSD. Not quite fluent with configuration, but I guess you can just go along and try whether it would work for you. And bash is also available, it's rather a question about what are you doing with bash, if you are using something Linux specific it might fail.
X
Try your i3 and test your plugins in a freebsd virtual machine
Это пылесос
can they work in free BSD?
Krond
Well, can't really tell not knowing what they are interfacing with.
Krond
Also there's russian group @freebsd_ru, might be easier to chat there if you are native.
Это пылесос
they create a window that interacts with the dragged files.

I wrote there, they wrote to me that something might not work.
Krond
true
Это пылесос
I'll clarify now
Это пылесос
are there any Bash analogues?
Это пылесос
(in free BSD)
Krond
You can just install Bash.
Krond
Bash itself is an anologue to posix sh with some extensions. We do have sh.
Это пылесос
will it work properly?
Krond
Ther's also dash/sash/yash and others.
Это пылесос
Krond
will it work properly?
Bash - yes, but if it uses some kernel side linux features - it might require some work. /dev and /proc are slightly different in here.
Это пылесос
in the ru chat they say that everything should work, but a little differently
Krond
What is posix?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/POSIX TL/DR POSIX is a standart about how the UNIX OS should work.
Это пылесос
But I've already figured it out.
Это пылесос
what are the difficulties with switching to free BSD?
Krond
Well, you have to choose how you will use FreeBSD. Linuxes have different distros, you can treat FreeBSD as a generic distro, or dig deeper and use it as your custom distro.
Krond
And WiFI is still a little bit outdated.
Это пылесос
will Huawei's dongle work?
Это пылесос
there was a program like this in older versions of Linux
Krond
I guess you can try downloading a USB image and booting from it to check your hardware. Or try searching release history and documentation for you hardware name.
Krond
In our case "older versions" might be still supported, as current codebase still supports running binaries built decades ago.
Krond
Actually including Linux binaries.
Это пылесос
Ок
Krond
I guess then you need to search for your HW model name.
Krond
Most driver manpages have HARDWARE sections with a list of supported models: https://man.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?iwm(4)
Krond
Sometimes it's getting tricky, when hardware vendor actually does branding: releases something detected under different name and designed by other brand.
Krond
Like you are looking on huge HP letters on your piece of HW, but it's still detected as Compaq or even Samsung.

And now in english
