Hence why knowing Latin should be a pre-requisite.
matt
yes, it's more difficult than that.
matt
you need to think like a roman
Mike
you need to think like a roman
An ancient roman. Modern romans don't speak Latin at all, ofc
Chungy
You can still learn Latin in the modern day. You can translate an OS into it if you know the language.
matt
yes, of course
matt
still, I haven't seen a latin keyboard layout
Chungy
Does your keyboard work for English?
Chungy
If yes, it works for Latin too.
Chungy
Most European languages use the Latin alphabet, English included. You also get Afrikaans and Vietnamese that use the Latin alphabet too. :p
Lukas
different diacritical marks can be used for the same words but with delta in time
Lukas
majority of European languages is Latin but it can be similar to parent like Spanish or so different like French
Lukas
Latin is just pretty fat, if I can say so)
matt
rule britannia is one example
matt
also, the chatolic church has been one of the few remaining institutions that are inventing new words for it.

waiting for an Old Church Slavonic translation
matt
well, at least an ancient egyptian one with hieroglyps may be twice as interesting.

this can be a starting point for someone nerdy enough to start writing a Latin translation of ReactOS
matt
(joke) well. at least unlike with templeOS, reactOS can speak proper latin to be considered the next temple.

Unless you want very ancient latin, which used a different alphabet (close to Etruscan and other italic ones), many modern languages use Latin alphabet

reactos: lemme show you a new release that can run NT6 programs microsoft: time to "leak" some windows vista source😈
MethanoVicky
MethanoVicky
btw, if some windows sources are leaked again, will we have to stop for some 3 years again to check our code
Chungy
that wasn't the reason for the freeze. The reason was that there were allegations that ReactOS had code lifted directly from the leaked Windows 2000 source, with the implication that it was happening for years. It turned out false but it was a major set back to the project.
matt
which parts of reactOS code are better written and more performant than windows?
Chungy
btrfs, since Microsoft hasn't even tried

I used to like this joke so much 🤣😂 And I didn't expect ChatGPT-based Bing AI to think of it, but it did! lol 😆🤣

It's Bing Chat aka Bing AI. It's in Preview, you can go to bing.com/new (Sorry for Link)

Even recently, there was someone on HackerNews claiming he's a MS employee and insisting that ReactOS must have used NT leaked code. He didn't provide tangible proof, IIRC... Even tho some of what he says makes sense, but he doesn't show where the supposedly copied code is
Chungy
There was already a hard audit that found no evidence Windows code has been used, and the project's been careful ever since. The chances that some has crept in are extraordinarily low.
Chungy
I'd say that random commenter was likely: A) Not a Microsoft employee, B) A troll trying to throw shade on the project
Chungy
Well, technically, ReactOS has incorporated Windows code in the mean time. The fastfat driver that Microsoft released as MIT-licensed. That's a bit of a different case, since MS licensed it so that ReactOS can legally use it.

Btw there is async connect PR already opened, which can be merged soon.😏

Олег
yes, seems that it's yours?
No, it's from another contributor. My msafd hack was not committed yet...
Олег
Are the bugs fixed?
I guess yes.🙂
Julio
But... as there is no way to look in the windows code
Julio
There is no certain on that claim
Momade
There is no certain on that claim
Indeed. I think it's the same person
Chungy
But... as there is no way to look in the windows code
Microsoft sells licenses to the Windows kernel for research and educational purposes. One person has to take the hit, get a contract and a promise to never contribute to ReactOS development, then compare the two and report findings.
Chungy
It's expensive but it can be done.
Chungy
Still, I think it's extremely unlikely that ReactOS has copied Winodws code.
matt
reactOS is not exactly a 1-1 clone of windows
Eris
really?
