Wine Internet Explorer basically only exists as a browser of last resort to open links. Normally Wine will launch your native browser, but there are configurations where launching Linux processes is not possible.

because someone at nullsoft had the very bright idea to repurpose the old minibrowser for the modern skin engine, so that it has it's own browser component, though the media library uses it as well in some places
