I don't even know what to search for anymore. nVidia NV9P-GS shows up in none of the nVidia support info. I don't know if it is an NVS etc. I can buy a replacement for $150 lol. But I can not seem to find Linux Driver for it anywhere
hacker12455
Merle
did you try the proprietary driver
For? If trying ReactOS the video works. But has other major driver problems. With Linux. I cant find a distro that will install. What proprietary driver. I cant even find anything on nVidia website. The Dell Drivers are windows. They work fine. But Win7 not supported any longer. So all the browser s wont update either. So bad browsers. ReactOS browser is bad too.
Esteban
There are many updated browsers for Win7 last time I used it (a month ago).
Esteban
Plus, you can get updates until 2023 with BypassESU
hacker12455
hacker12455
cnet says GeForce 9600M GT
hacker12455
hold on
hacker12455
does your model even have a dedicated card
hacker12455
you know
hacker12455
the best course of action will be to run gpu-z
hacker12455
do you have win 7 with the dell drivers on there
hacker12455
then put it back on
hacker12455
install the dell drivers
hacker12455
and run gpu-z
Merle
What is gpu-z? Fill me in
hacker12455
https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/
Merle
Drive has been fried so many times lol.. ill put an OEM Win7
Merle
What would i need gpu-z for. I know it works in Win7. But doesnt like updates and browsers dont display stuff well
hacker12455
Merle
Esteban
Fill me in on BypassESU
Windows 7 still gets updates for corporations that pay for it, untill 2023. BypassESU removes restrictions and allows you to get and install those updates.
Merle
cnet says GeForce 9600M GT
I wasnt able to find that comparable card.. or what it was. So perhaps ill look for a Linux that supports the 9600M
hacker12455
Merle
hacker12455
pressing the drop down menu on the bottom reveals no other cards?
Merle
Nope same info.. Its a Intel® GMA X4500HD Video Card in there - a Linux HWare check shows them in there too
hacker12455
hacker12455
so any nvidia drivers will be pointless
Merle
I'm angry at it now. So stubborn. This site lists a bunch that support the Intel xf86. So gonna try 3 more Distros then DUMP maybe
https://launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+packages
hacker12455
try manjaro maybe
Merle
Arch Builds didn't work
Merle
I could try it. Takes 20 secs to cut the DVD... and 2mins to see it crash... lol... Version u suggest?
Petrus
Try latest Linux Mint iso
hacker12455
hacker12455
I'd pick the XFCE version
Merle
Manjaro is 64bit... I'm betting not a chance - but - oh well... download.. cut dvd.. crash it... 20mins total...
Merle
Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty No Good
Julio
Try tinycore linux
Julio
I would suggest starting with 4.7.7 or 7.2 as these are the most stable releases
Julio
And were releases at the times when that computer was relatively new
Merle
Just grabbed 7.04 it wont even see CD lol
Merle
Red Hat 7.2 2 CD's gonna try
Andrea.
try trash
hacker12455
Jose
Devuan Linux, then you can use qemu/virt-manager/kvm/virtio to virtualize ReactOS and have both working.
Julio
Julio
Or am I wrong?
Merle
No redhat 7.2 no good. Wont even boot. Im gonna try win7. Chrome
hacker12455
Merle just a quick question
hacker12455
if you try to run a linux distro
hacker12455
you get a black screen?
Merle
Ya on all of them. With the old ones RedHar 7.2. doesnt even boot CD
hacker12455
try to add nomodeset to the kernel boot command line?
Chungy
Why are you trying something as old as RH7?
Chungy
RH7.2 is 21 years old.
Tobiyo

Tobiyo

Chungy

Excellent
Esteban
Hi guys. Is there some kind of book about ReactOS? I was thinking something like Windows Internals but related to ReactOS.
Chungy
No, not really. Windows Internals is sometimes referenced to implement ReactOS. Sometimes it's known to be inaccurate to what Windows really does.

Now spread please!!
Anas
Yes sir
Anas
Wait Microsoft did what
Anas
I honestly don't know what win11 system requirements are at this point
Anas
Its so confusing
Mike
They want you to have a tpm compliant pc, either you need it or not
Mike
Imho, for most home uses a c2d or a64 x2 can still be pretty decent, and I already was pissed off by the "sorry, no upgrade to athlon 64" thing that happened a couple of years ago
Anas
Oh
