I found reactos the next year

I used to hate linux also

Until I found tinycore

I am working on a ReactOS server since 2013
Julio
7 years after I got the achievement 😂
Julio
Tons of bugs had to be fixed
Julio
And new ones were discovered

ReactOS Server confirmed?
Jose
What?
Julen
I think he means reactos.org.es is storaged in ReactOS.
Jose
But not downloadable ISO for it?
Jose
Can ReactOS include latest https://www.openssl.org/blog/blog/2021/09/07/OpenSSL3.Final/
Chungy
I think he's asking about the equivalent of Windows Server.
1. ReactOS isn't sold as a commercial product and has little use for separate SKUs. Windows Desktop and Server do have some different performance defaults, but ReactOS already asks you at install time for "Workstation" or "Server" for that reason.
2. ReactOS has not even attempted to recreate any of the actual server components of Windows Server. Might happen in the future, but that's way off.
Jose
And https://www.openldap.org/
Chungy
some good open source server applications already have Windows ports. Apache, nginx, PostgreSQL, for instance.
Jose
But PostgreSQL do not work yet under ReactOS
Chungy
It did last time I tried :P

Running a server regularly on ReactOS is a milestone

whatever it was 2-3 years ago

It never pass from first loading frame...
Jose
Id like to see working under ReactOS MariaDB and PostgreSQL 😌
Jose
Its a good combination to learn
Chungy
frame? what frame? xD
Jose
First anounce starting application form

There are many projects (some cases abandoned) which works very well

Setting a Windows Server is way more difficult.
Petrus
Specially when you have provisioning languages such as Ansible and Salt to automatize installation and config over Linux boxes
Petrus
Not to mention being able to set 1 or more servers in one row
Petrus
Don't go full Carpal Tunnel Champion award, my friend
Julio
Learning curve my friend
Julio
I learned server basics on windows, and then applied those knowledge on linux

I like the fact that drives and folders are separated from devices. That's one of the things I don't like much about *nix
Jose
Anas
If everything is Linux, things will be boring
Petrus
Why not? not all are Linux
I'm not against about experiments.
Now think if you had to configure 3 or more ReactOS VMs to do a mysql cluster or something like that. How many clicks you'd need per VM?
I recommend to be pragmatic. Linux (and UNIX*) systems provide better automatized ways to do config.
Anas
Good point
Anas
But can't we make things easy on ReactOS?
Anas
Just asking, I don't know anything about coding
Jose
Jose
I use Devuan Linux as my main system but also use other OP Systems, why not? powershell is very powerfull and differents Linux Shells also.
I am not a guru and never will be but yet i enjoy playing with systems.
BBDD clusters are too advanced and ReactOS is only alpha but is a good option to install those software to learn.

Petrus
You could think this as a long stress test.
More long-term manteinance than stress, I may say.
I've see all kind of tech heresies done on production (legacy systems, they call them) and almost impossible to support over time.
I try to keep server operating systems as much minimalistic I can, to avoid future problems, make upgrading easier and so on.
A desktop OS is complex enough to add services such as http(s) and databases on it and pretend it to be stable.
Petrus
Have you tried to migrate an old service running on a w2003 and discontinued?
Chungy
When ReactOS is out of alpha, it might make a stable enough system for servers.

It's possible to install Microsoft Windows Store on ReactOS?
