XP vs Vista when it comes to booting process are completely different.
If Vista boots, there's a higher chance to have little to no effort having Win7's boot sequence. (In MBR/VBR mode, not GPT, which Windows Vista doesn't support, and Windows 7 partially supports (it can read GPT stuff, write on it, but booting is a mixed bag.)

On 64bit, yes, UEFI partially supported as Class 2 and GPT

I had time when Vista was installed on my modern laptop, but not all drivers are available so was a pain. Only thing i dont know, how i managed to boot Win98SE from FreeDOS with pure UEFI, because the Win7 and Vista freezes at the Logo at bootvid and some ACPI lacks of support, I dont know how Win98SE managed to use VGA, i have seen no drivers loaded at all, only 4 or some others like PIC... and Clock... etc.

RAM wasnt available all, 64MB from 4gb first time, i managed to edit config files and use 1.9, but kernel sometimes crashed, 1gb was fine

Windows 98 SE with the unofficial service pack 3 gives you a lot of more recent components from NT.
The system is much more stable for me with these tweaks applied

Well, you can do 1080p with a VBE driver but it isn't that accelerated
If you want hardware acceleration, you have 2 options.
1-Buy an old video card.
2-Use a newer operating system.

When I'm talking acceleration, I just mean 2D basic desktop compositor, not any 3D stuff
