Can i say here that i dont get the quest for low ram usage? It is there to be used. if nextcloud uses 1G as filecache, yes please! Who gices a goddamn fuck with current notebooks starting at 8+gb if not absolute trash anyway. And each bit of memory used results in more performance for me.

Its like i'd try to reduce ram usage on a db server that is made for being a db server. let it cache.

I am doing nothing on that side to lower the RAM usage, just saying that it uses very low by itself

I won't blame a OS to "use" 4GB of ram when i have 128 - when the same os uses 80mb when it has 400 mb. Same for chromium. Same for my DE. Aslong as it doesnt need to swap because they use so much that they can't reduce

Sometimes you just have to use DE or OS-es that are better suited for older hardware, cause, you know, not all of us live in 1st world countries and got spare money to buy decent or high performance hardware

Yes. at 1/2G a lighter de or browser might be a better choice. But we have poeple crying bloody murder over chrome using 200mb more on systems where it SHOULD use more that i want to rip some benchmarkers heads off sometimes.

The lowest i try to go to is 4G because all my tasks combined will usually go above that. Right now i'm using 6/16 G

Screen resolution isn't even a need for me… usually my biggest desire from hardware is enough memory to run without too much lag in the UI and then battery. ?

I've had awful luck with batteries in this Toshiba laptop
