Just as a side comment: I had no problems so far in Debian Testing.

Debian has a quite different politic about including software and decoders. That is why it plays mp4 and some other formats out of the box. This is Fedora.

What about the machine dedicated to building the Kernel assigned to Greg Kroah-Hartman? It has 128GB in RAM and 32 swap if I'm not mistaken. Having swap doesn't hurt even if you have plenty of RAM.

A half of 128gb can be converted to ram drive so you could boot from it. And there still would be lots of ram..

It's to have extra RAM when you're short of it. The system swaps between the actual RAM and the space in disc designated to work as "RAM". If there's RAM enough or even more, what for?
