Technically huge parts of windows is open source

So it's possible for proprietary software to be open source

It's not opposite things

And there is a lot of PAID open source software

RHEL for example

Please do not oversimplify the world :)

You can find all the sources publicly available. CentOS is a project that takes the source and builds it into installable images

Semyon

The RHEL cost is for support, not for the software.
You can't access software repos without subscription

This renders RHEL almost useless without one

So actually it's not support, but software itself

Serge

Building binaries out of the source is part of the support as well.

See EPEL and CentOS repositories. With the exception of the Oracle repositories, everything in the RHEL repos can be found in EPEL and CentOS repos. It's all FOSS.

RHEL is GPLv2 (maybe v3), if I remember right. So legally Red Hat is obligated to provide the source for everything they do with it.

As per sub-licensing with the GPL

Of course, this goes without saying, IANAL

You can get a free RHEL license if you are developing software on it.

Never complained about their installer, but after install and use it for a while make me confused sometime.

Last try for 13.2 and Leap 42.2 and my conclusion is no way to use OpenSUSE again. But never try Tumbleweed version anyway. ?
