Using LaTeX a better and more consistent style can be gotten, but usually you create the style first (with more effort than in Word probably) and after you write with the reliability of a good and consistent design

If you're used to a decade or two of Windows, Cinnamon can be a little friendlier to adjust to. I had an interesting conversation with someone in Albania about this recently, and using Linux Mint (i.e. really for Cinnamon) for government systems

Of course it affects the Speed and of course xfce/lxde and co. are the fastest. But if you've got >4gig ram and >Pentium 4 Gnome and Kde make more than up for it in Features.
