Kali is the worst distribution ever. All software and services works only as root. Their maintainers are too bad. They use checkinstall to build packages, then push result to repositories. They even can not backport security patches from Debian (Kali based on it).

It was not meant to be invulnerable or used as workstation. Useful if you need a quick desktop on a USB stick.

It is okay to use Kali from KVM/VM container or USB stick. But not as main desktop system.

And for that is one of the most fully featured ones.
But lots of people install Kali as main desktop system. And this is not good.

I was actually thinking of putting even lighter blend of Fedora there.

Maybe, one with LXDE. MATE is pretty heavy.

You're on Linux — No excuses.

if you're running an app — install pyenv under that account...or use Docker!

Serge

there are copr repos for that
Found two in Google which are closed now. It looks like there is no live one at the moment.

Use pyenv: https://github.com/yyuu/pyenv-installer
I've ended up using pyenv indeed. It works well surprisingly;)

You can also build no-desktop to E11,openbox,icewm, but as a spin LXDE is light yes but there are other options too (in main repo)

I was wondering whether it would be possible to install Fedora Atomic (as the base Docker image is just ~60MB) and then build upon it

That is my secondary option. If LXDE won't be light enough, I'd go for no-graphical installation and set up Openbox there.

Michał yes It is but you need to rebuild atomic first

Or you can use atomic and make docker on it and export to vnc/x11/ and use as remote desktop too

Nope, can you show the output of env | egrep 'LC_|LANG' ??

Also I'd recommend using the CLI in english, CLI in spanish sucks, half the stuff isn't translated, sometimes manpages are out of date.

The way I see the CLI shouldn't be translated at all

Gwindor
