Maybe, one with LXDE. MATE is pretty heavy.

It's been ages that I don't use Mate, it used to be very light. I even used it for a long time in my netbook.

That is my secondary option. If LXDE won't be light enough, I'd go for no-graphical installation and set up Openbox there.

Also I'd recommend using the CLI in english, CLI in spanish sucks, half the stuff isn't translated, sometimes manpages are out of date.

Seems a bit odd not having any LC_ variable. Actually I don't have a computer with me right now but I think that would be the cause. localectl should be able to fix this for you

It depends on what client are you using

In my installation, if I close the windows, it keeps the session in the system tray
