Well... Never happened to me. I used all kind of DMs with different desktops and they worked just fine. I didn't try SDDM recently though.

I don't do autologin, it's risky. I always let it configured to ask password everytime.

As a personal experience, last week I installed Debian on Alienware R17 2016, Ethernet and Wifi network were not recognized due to legal and philosophical reasons they are not available in the official iso nor the non-free iso; tried Fedora and I ended up convincing my friend to install Fedora. I used a netinstall ISO and the wifi card without issues :D . Thanks spot for making this possible. :D

although i am a libre software cultist, i reckognize that regular users won't agree with some design decisions

Legal and philosophical, for me it is easy to handle this. I mean, downloading the packages with the firmwares, unpacking it on a usb and having it plugged while the install is not that bad, but for newbies I don't think is easy at the first try.

This is why I applaud spot and Red Hat/Fedora about this permissive policy about firmwares.

It is awesome to install Fedora using a netinstall, using the wireless card without fighting with drivres and the like.

I use it only when I had set up LUKS anyway, so I don't end up with having to enter the password twice; I can still lock the desktop if I want to :)
