rfkill can usually tell the chip to turn itself off. But for that it must have support for that model.

Can you do a screenshot of the wifi settings overview please?

If you're in Gnome, click on the upper right corner where the networks icon is. There will be a dropdown menu. Or there should be.

Sometimes that works even if it sounds stupid.

@vibhcool Can you use a live usb and see if the network is recognised there? Maybe Fedora doesn't have the drivers by default (e.g. because it's not OSS).

Earlier in other distros. I used switch wifi through fn + F2 . clicking on wifi doesnt turn on wifi. but i would be able to turn off by clicking.

Tobias?

It only gets wifi DISABLE

Please refrain from using the function key, its clearly implemented broken by the manufacturer. Let me find how to force rfkill to turn things back on.

rfkill list all | fpaste

Typically utterly broken implementations by them

Tobias?

yes, it is wierd
sudo modprobe -r acer_wmi rfkill unblock all sudo modprobe acer_wmi

Then try that key again

And if it works NEVER EVER touch it again.

Acer bioses/uefis are just horribly broken beyond belief and often have problems like this.

I should make a wiki what to avoid when buying laptops for the intent of running linux. xD

Setup dualboot to windows, enable wifi, reboot into fedora. The bios on your acer will periodically forget that it has wifi enabled, block it again.

Kohane

wifi wasn't working in live usb
Then you're likely to be missing drivers. Or there's something wrong with your hardware.

Tobias?
27.10.2018
10:11:21
So you'd need to keep dualboot just for enabling wifi again.

Then they may have added staging drivers for it or appllied kernel patches just for acer.

Fedora doesnt do that, to keep errors from kernel patches to a minimum.
