A simple question, what about Cinnamon vs KDE? I used KDE/Plasma4, for many time and it worked great. I'm not so sure about Plasma 5 and I think I'll change it. At the moment I'm on gnome that I don't like very much... I never tried cinnamon, that looks like a mix between KDE and Gnome ?? so, I'm curious but my fear is that after the configuration of whole Cinnamon I'll miss KDE...

well... most of desktops consume a similar ram...

Life is a risk. Go ahead and try it. If you started a few years ago cinnamon is like the old-classic gnome 2.x I personally likes kde and xfce but cinnamon and mate are good too. you can always switch between DE until you decide or use it for different propouses (every DE have their own magic).

My KDE Plasma takes 162MB ram and yes everything I dark. For my laptop KDE is so light the only lighter desktop is openbox that take 82-96MB ram.

Cinnamon is nothing like GNOME 2...how can you say that? I don't see any resemblance of GNOME 2 except that both have a panel, but with this logic you can say that KDE is almost like GNOME 2 also.

Yeah, Plasma is weird :D the activities thing was always useless to me (though I can see how it'd be useful)

Well, panels are customizable so the amount of panels and their items doesn't matter much. But the items itself, what you can put on the panel, they differ tremendously. There isn't a single panel item in Cinnamon that you can also find in GNOME 2. MATE however does have most of the old GNOME 2 panel items. The file manager nemo is (in my opinion horrible but also) nothing like nautilus in GNOME 2. Again, MATE's caja does a much better job resembling GNOME 2. System settings? Cinnamon's system settings are more like GNOME 3 and are nothing like GNOME 2. And Cinnamon uses GTK+ 3 as opposed to GTK+ 2 that GNOME 2 did. → Conclusion: They're completely different.

You missed a feature that is present in GTK2 but not GTK3 : the option to change GTK colours to anything you like. ? And for Nemo... well, I dislike more Nautilus, so... I think saying it's "horrible" isn't completely fair. IMHO.

Cinnamon is very customizable and with hot corners you can set applications view like Gnome 3 (and the other corners for other things). Using this and Alt+F2 I don't use the Windows-like start button. I have not tried KDE, therefore I can't compare it ?.
