LOL Where I was living there were a few cars, but the only ones who would complain about parking and driving were the US Americans. The rest of us, including Germans, would simply shrug and carry on.

Even if normally they were driving even to go around the corner. ?

In the town I was, most cars were outside. But most people don't own a car, they use whatever transport is at hand. I saw people renting Smarts and similar electric cars to go to downtown, and others renting them for holidays or special trips. Electric cars are getting popular in Stuttgart from what I saw.

Ye, while we prefer a close parking spot walking a 100m is just "whatever".
I think that's general attitude in Germany. If something it's not actually a problem that prevents you from (doing something), Germans simply shrug and carry on. Tons of snow on your car? Clean the window and start the machine. Tree leafs on your vehicle? Well, that's what trees do in autumn, right? Carry on that is late. This street is under construction? Take the other one. It's almost impossible to drive a certain place? Go walking. The place has no parking? Go biking.

Thse parking attitude is better than where I live, where people would leave the cars wherever and then go all "but mr officer, its just for a short time"...
LOL I've seen that many times. "I just went for a coffee!" (and a sandwich, and a talk with the casheer, and the newspaper, and...) They cut that putting machines in the old city (Montevideo, Uruguay), so you can't argue. The ticket shows clearly the time and there is no way around it. Unless you have a collection of stickers and cards with dates and times for every occasion. Or a machine of your own to produce tickets at will. ?

Here as well, but not on grass for example
What the... Do people actually park on the grass?

Like on a park or a square?

Yeah, thats why when youre in Poland youll see many grass patches with little stones or stuff that makes driving inside impossible

Like on a park or a square?
Well okay, the actual parks are safe as they have some higher greens like small bushes

Michał

Not really, usually youve got bushes or stones put there on purpose so you cant leave your car there

The funny thing is how the misdemeanor is called "destroying the greens", but when the grass is already destroyed by people leaving their cars then you can't get the ticket as there's no grass to destroy ?

Kohane

Yeah, but still. That's worse than in Uruguay. Over there people don't park on the grass. It would be like parking on the sidewalk. They do park in awkward places and blocking all sort of entrances, and in such a way that provokes a traffic jam, and in places that are explicitely forbidden to park.... but not on the grass or on sidewalks.

Michał

Parking on the sidewalks is forbidden here if you won't leave 1.5m for the pedestrians, and people usually don't do that that much
Well, I'm not aware that is forbidden. But people leaving their cars on the sidewalks will get angry neighbours to annoy them, so it's not customary. It is a bad habit, and a hard to get rid of too, to park in corners, blocking entrances and in streets that are far too narrow.

You can even call a company to remove the car on the owners money if parked that wrong for long times.

That rule about leaving space to pedestrians exists in Montevideo but related to bars and restaurants, @michalrud They used to cover the whole place with chairs and tables and it was impossible to pass, so they established that rule so people can walk through.

Kohane
18.10.2018
10:24:09
All of that is actually forbidden and the police can step in.
In Uruguay, it's not the Police job to look after traffic and parking issues. It's a city force that specific to that. And they only work in the city centre, the rest of the city is pretty much no man's land.

Kohane
18.10.2018

Here drivers know, that pedestrians carry home keys And home keys leave nasty scratches
Wow. That was agressive. Here often kick the car to set the alarm off. Or ring at the nearest door to complain about the car. Unless you live in the outskirts. If so, you'd better keep your complains for yourself, people is quite violent over there.

We simply have both. xD
Like, if you don't get caught, you get caught ?

As a side note, the first time I saw the police driving around randomly, I felt uneasy because in LATAM the police is a danger by itself. 90% of cases, at least. After a month or so, I got used and didn't bother me anymore. But I know people who can't get used to that.

Michał
18.10.2018
