i can see client side code make sure it is not doing anything i dislike
I monitor most of the closed source software I use too

Check internet connections, firewall etc.

Google

i don't

because i use so little of it

i just turn off the internet completely

and just use it

when done shut off the vm or whatever

How do you know if can't check the code? How are you 100% sure of what your privative software does?

How do you know if can't check the code? How are you 100% sure of what your privative software does?
Because everything risky it depends on internet connectivity? Since it needs that to transmit personal data, I just make sure it does not do that, block connections using firewall

Anxhelo
07.11.2016
21:20:23
not necessarily
Well, if it stays on my pc only, what damage can it do

Google
Terry
07.11.2016
21:20:26
what that software could do is be a rootkit basically

then keylog you till it gets admin passwords

from there rewrite the monitoring software

with it's own version

and bam

nothing suspicious going on

Anxhelo
07.11.2016
21:21:50
If a software did that, they should be prepared to get thrown out of the market and bankrupt

Not worth for them getting some admin passwords

Anxhelo
07.11.2016
21:22:33
In my case atleast, since I don't buy things online or anything related

Terry
07.11.2016
21:22:42
intel also tried to backdoor their own cpus

In my case atleast, since I don't buy things online or anything related
not the point the admin password can be used to modify the system completely

and with that turn itself on and off irregardless what you say

it is easy to turn off the screen display

Anxhelo
07.11.2016
21:23:52
I think you are going a bit too far lol

Terry
07.11.2016
21:23:56
how?

Anxhelo
07.11.2016
21:24:22
Like, do all that, with what purpose? What do they win here?

Terry
07.11.2016

Hmm not so sure about that

Terry
07.11.2016
21:25:48
Hmm not so sure about that
stuxnet is able to bridge airgaps

using low level code

AI is a VERY interesting subject

and anyone who writes a virus woule be interested in it for sure for multiple reasons

Anxhelo
07.11.2016
21:27:14
Ok then, let's say we want to get rid of intel backdoors, proprietary software etc.

have you heard about Purism?

Terry
07.11.2016
21:27:43
have you heard about Purism?
i have not been too busy lately

Anxhelo
07.11.2016
21:28:07
They basically make open source hardware and software laptops and devices

Terry
07.11.2016
21:28:34
see it is not about that we need to get people to want to make open source

we need incentives there

Anxhelo
07.11.2016
21:28:44
And let's say we want to make a change, convince people to change and buy them

Terry
07.11.2016
21:28:53
make public goverment funded projects or something

Anxhelo
07.11.2016
21:29:05
Here is the funny part, buying that is not easy nor cheap

In many countries, the average wage is under 200$ a month

While buying a Purism laptop costs like 1.5k$

Let's say I am from one of these countries and want to have it and profit from open source stuff

I can't, because price is too much

That's why I am stuck with ordinary PC-s, that use windows

Google
Anxhelo
07.11.2016
21:30:45
Because they are cheaper and affordable

Terry
07.11.2016
21:30:49
see what i would do in that case

and most will not do this

Anxhelo
07.11.2016
21:31:00
This, IMO, is smth that should be addressed

Terry
07.11.2016
21:31:08
is research how a cpu is made

order a small one

and build my own computer

using their open source documentation

Anxhelo
07.11.2016
21:31:40
and most will not do this
Exactly, not tech savvy enough

Terry
07.11.2016
21:32:01
and the only way to change this is to modify the whole system

Admin
ERROR: S client not available

Anxhelo
07.11.2016
21:32:12
is research how a cpu is made
Not only cpu is open source, you need every possible component

Terry
07.11.2016
21:32:29
you can make an OS not take into account interrupt flags

or register flags in general

(■_■¬)

this gets rid of like 10-20% of the silicone inside the CPU

Anxhelo
07.11.2016
21:33:37
Oh come on!
What? Is that wrong?

Terry
07.11.2016
21:33:51
theoritically move is also turing complete

Anxhelo
07.11.2016
21:34:02
I am from one of these countries where average wage is 250$

Google
Terry
07.11.2016
21:34:17
so you can get your CPU to just use different move functions

it is cheaper then 1.5k

(■_■¬)
07.11.2016
21:34:41
What? Is that wrong?
I'm a fanboy, an used ThinkPad for example a X220 is about US$200

Terry

21:34:50
and it is easy to repair

Anxhelo
07.11.2016
21:35:06
it is cheaper then 1.5k
But, the point is we all want open source hardware

Terry
07.11.2016
21:35:08
you can easily put linux on it

Anxhelo
07.11.2016
21:35:12
That is my point

Everything runs out of the box if you install Fedora in it.

You can install libreboot in it.

Terry
07.11.2016

you can find datasheets for each of these components

the one thing you cannot do is find the chip topography well that simply

(■_■¬)
07.11.2016
21:36:44
The only thing that it is not fully OpenSource is the wifi drivers, but you still have the ethernet port.

Terry
07.11.2016
21:36:58
if you are a comp eng you can find the topography

but too easy to install

You can install Linux on any of those cheap computers. Why is it mandatory to use a cracked version of Windows?
