Don't copy/move/remove files on windows C: from a Linux session. When shutting down Windows keep the Shift key pressed while you click Turn off and keep it while the computer turn off, or run from the windows terminal shutdown /t 10 /s Turning off this way avoid locking partition when mounting it on linux. Use a secondary partition for copying files from linux to windows. Try to not mount the linux partition on windows. It may corrupt the linux file system.

Even this partition might be hijacked by Windows, I faced this same issue pretty after installing fedora 22 a year ago. I have a data dedicated partition in which I drop files from linux to be accessed during Windows sessions.

Hmmm, graphical tools as Nautilus and Dolphin relies on mount. This might not work too.

@pionen , @DrMuffin Seems like the issue was with Windows.. mount hinted that the resource may be locked. Booted to Windows and released the lock while shutting down. Everything works now. Thanks for the quick help! ?

If you can access your windows partition, then it is simple. Go to power options, and uncheck the fast boot option and hold shift when restarting. Worked for me.

Open the file chooser, top bar, "settings" "executable files" > "always ask"

by default execution of files that are executable is "open in editor"

DONT set it to always run.

that would lead to serious issues

CUPS is what's used for printing on 99% of distros. Also, GNU/Linux is a UNIX-like system so don't get confused by the "UNIX".
