Sorry, I'm in a bunch

Chrome or Chromium, and which version? Is there a specific error when it crashes (a coredump or something)?

Also, what's your GPU?

Chrome tends to crash for me if my current graphics driver is unstable

(on any platform, any distro)

Usually there'll be some indicator in chrome://gpu that things aren't working right

You didn't see anything about mesa, nouveau, nvidia, etc.?

Or even chrome

16.10.2016

ah..I got it: Segmentation fault (core dumped)

I reinstalled the Nvidia closed source driver after the kernel update

Paul

That might've done it.

See if nouveau fixes it

I followed this guide http://www.if-not-true-then-false.com/2015/fedora-nvidia-guide/ and disabled the nouveau driver

Paul

05:29:14
My suggestion would be to try uninstalling that and reinstalling nouveau

Nvidia and AMD make lousy Linux drivers

Nvidia tends to be better than AMD, but even still, they're pretty bad

Paul

Just give it a try to see if that's the issue. If it fixes the Chrome issue, you'll know it's something related to the GPU.

That will make it easier to troubleshoot.

Then you can reinstall the proprietary drivers

And look for a different browser :P

If you have an Nvidia and an Intel Gpu it would be much much wiser to make a Windows VM instead

Not is a Rolling distributin
1) Nobody cares that its not rolling and its better that it isnt 2) it offers you to do a seamless upgrade from f23 to 24 and 24 to 25. Why is it a bad idea to make it rolling? Packages change, APIs change, config files change. Simply updating them WILL break things in excitingly horrible ways.

Then you should know that rolling release is only a good idea on often reinstalled systems, testing systems or for trying out the newest of the new

I would say that Fedora is the edge of linux, and you can run forward if your looking backward.

Tobias?
16.10.2016

It is a very very stable distro while still being on the edge, which is awesome and fedo usually gets a new stable kernel before arch does so.. XD

People come to fedora to move forward, not to engage in legacy compatibility and provide long term support.

No, the Act of installing a System once and then just doing rolling upates forever

I'm all for the newest stuff but introducing wayland would be a breaking change - with forcing people to reinstall/update to f25 it should be rather smooth

I agree. That's what I meant, you need a lot of effort to make a smooth transition taking care of old stuff. Looking at different user cases for the upgrade. A clean install is easier. People can focus in the exciting new stuff

No need to be sharp. I had no understanding of the relationship between Fedora and RHEL until long after I was already using Fedora too.

Some things you learn with time and experience, not everything is so clear.

I think you're overthinking it - my point is that not everyone will see a tiny link in the footer of a page. :P

I've been wanting to switch myself, but need to get a few more things working before I can fully commit.

Also, if anyone knows an alternative to a screenshot service like Screencloud (that supports SFTP uploading), I would be happy to know about it. This is one of the things preventing me from moving away from a GUI. :P

Screencloud is a screenshot utility that supports a variety of platforms. It will let you upload screenshots to its own service, Dropbox, Imgur, your own server via SFTP, and I think a few more.

Yep. But I also have the option to drag and select an area of my screen for sharing (or I can just select everything). Kind of like GNOME Screenshot but supporting different outputs.

my solution to that would be a modular solution using a particular screenshot program and saving it to a folder synced with sshfs
