Folks, I'm taking the task of updating and packaging a tool for GDM. This was written for previous Fedora versions but needs to be updated to GTK 3.20. Also, I want to package it and if it's possible to include it in Fedora repositories. Now my question is: Where can I find clear documentation or instructions about how to update an app from a previous version of GTK (I think 3.18) to a new one (3.20 in this case)? Thanks in advance!

While working with some Vala app some time ago, deprecations are documented in gtk documentation as usual, when building should display proper warnings too

Release notes (news, changelog) also mentions what really changed

Oh, thanks

But I never worked with GTK before. This link, the text in it is almost meaningless to me. ? Do you have anything that explains the process of updating a certain app in more detail?

Yes, I think so. But I thought that's configurable. Isn't it?
Most users won't configure it and may thus be uniquely identified.

Between 3.18 and 3.20 shouldn't be significant changes, is it not working as is after building it or showing building errors or warnings?

Install User-Agent Switcher extension and replace your UA.
I'm not sure if you're being serious right now. That suggestion is completely useless. Firefox has a built-in UA configuration. And as I just mentioned, it's about that Fedora's defaults are bad. OF COURSE it can be changed manually, everything can. But if there were a bug in the Fedora Linux kernel, would you say "oh you can just compile your own kernel" or would you fix the Fedora kernel?

I vote for changing what is not working and maybe adding a note saying something like "you can configure it in xx". Most of people have no idea it's configurable simply because it's not in the Settings menu. See, I had to ask if it was configurable or not and I use Firefox every day.

I think that build-in Fedora tag in UA is a feature, not a bug.
I think one should have *the option* to decide how much of ourselves want to show.

I remember using Konqueror time ago and it gave me the option to show or not my operating system, browser and so.

If it's possible in Konqueror, it's possible in Firefox.

No, that's a very extreme approach. But being able to choose what info I'd like to share, such as the feature "tell the other site I don't want to be tracked" or so.

Disable javascript, flash, java or even better disconnect from network, turn off all devices, lock yourself in basement and enjoy privacy
I think icecat does this. I would assume they don't provide info related to which OS I'm running.

What a shitty argument. Privacy is a right for everybody. You don't need to be super paranoid to realize the fact that UAs (and other information shared with the server) can help uniquely identify a computer.

You are able!!! You are fucking free to install User Agent switcher!
You and @xvitaly keep mentioning that extension, but you don't need it. UA changing is built right into Firefox. You can change it in about:config.

This 1% of users can install UA Switcher addon.
Yes, or simply change via about:config.

Mozilla will never allow end users to control default UA via settings.
Wrong. It is possible in about:config. Well, depends on whether you define about:config as settings.

UA is not something many people know about. Those who do also know what about:config is.
