Is it OK to build large packages in copr, for example ones that take ~30 minutes to build? Or is that unfair because I'm using too many resources? What's the consensus on this?

Kohane
19.09.2016
19:43:09
I think is okay, There are programes that are really huge. But maybe someone with more expertise in copr?

O
19.09.2016
19:44:13
There is line for compile, you just simply need to wait. It will compile
oh sorry
no It's not unfair
you can compile whatever you want
Server is big enough to handle that

Lesik
19.09.2016
19:45:37
Oh OK :)

O His question was rather philosophical I think. If it was fair or unfair. But I don't think there's a problem, as I said there are some programmes that are huge and you have to compile them somewhere

19:46:18
I see I see
I miss read it

Lesik
19.09.2016
19:46:33
Well I could also save some money and buy a server, or build on my local machine. I'd prefer to use copr.

O
19.09.2016
19:46:47
you can use copr

Lesik
19.09.2016
19:46:54
Great

O
19.09.2016
19:47:20
I don't know what are you compiling but even fedora packagers doing alot of compiling and packages test in copr
e.g : qt 5.7 I guess all of it was in copr then they moved to release
I saw gnome new version was there
there is bigger packages and software compiling time to time
so you gonna be just fine :)

Kohane
19.09.2016
19:49:03
Now I wonder what are you compiling that si so big... @laessig ...

O

Kohane takes leads :) I'm back to my own compiling :)

Kohane

Haha
But I'm curious what is he doing!

Lesik

I'm in a group of people that patch Telegram Desktop to have a dark UI. I'm responsible for packaging, and now I'm thinking about where to host the repo. I have my own webspace, or I could use copr. The advantage of copr is that it builds _and_ hosts the repo. If I use my own webspace (on which I don't have root rights) I have to compile on my own computer, then rsync to the webspace. I'm still internally debating.

O
19.09.2016
19:53:18
that's just small use, copr
you gonna be soooo fine :)

Google

O
19.09.2016
19:53:36
%100 use copr :)
then you can move rpmfusion If you want or something :)

Lesik
19.09.2016
19:54:31
OK, thanks! :)

Kohane
19.09.2016
19:56:28
Yes, definitely. Use copr

Lesik
19.09.2016
20:04:32
Seems like I can't use copr – it is forbidden to use RPMFusion. And to compile Telegram Desktop ffmpeg is needed.

O
19.09.2016
20:05:10
disable it *

Kohane
19.09.2016
20:05:19
Really?

O
19.09.2016
20:05:24
yes
rpmfusion stuff is not okey*

Lesik
19.09.2016
20:06:00
I know. That's why I say I can't use copr.

Kohane
19.09.2016
20:06:03
No, I mean, I didn't know copr and RPM fusion...
Doh...

Kohane
19.09.2016
20:06:29
That's bad
And now? What are your options?

Lesik
19.09.2016
20:07:25
Building on my PC, then rsyc-ing to my server.

Kohane
19.09.2016
20:09:12
It's a lot of work, me think...

O
19.09.2016
20:09:41
Fedora rules.... and FESCo
http://legal.fedoraproject.narkive.com/yuD2bHr0/fedora-legal-list-can-copr-use-rpmfusion
but you can cheat spec file
If you compile also ffmpeg you cand use of it.

Google

O
19.09.2016
20:10:40
can*

Kohane
19.09.2016
20:11:42
That's a nice idea, but I don't know how much work is compiling ffmpeg too

O
19.09.2016
20:11:54
well I nevermind
If you compile something against rpmfusion

Admin
ERROR: S client not available

O
19.09.2016
20:12:10
they will delete it
even my way

Kohane
19.09.2016
20:12:44
Ah

O
19.09.2016
20:12:52
so he has to disable ffmpeg stuff
so he can just focus for theme and finish work
then yeah
or simply go for rpmfusion and apply for packager

Kohane
19.09.2016
20:16:30
I think that makes sense. @laessig can compile anything in RPM fusion

O
19.09.2016
20:18:02
yes

Lesik
19.09.2016
20:19:00
lol

O
19.09.2016
20:23:02
yes not the best idea , you just need to go rpmfusion way
