you know windows leeches from other drives
when it doesnt have enough space to funtion
might want to prevent that
40gb is insanely small for a windows drive

There are some portable, custom Windows floating around, you can even make your own if you're brave enough
It's not as straightforward as making a custom Fedora LiveCD, or any Linux or open-sorce OS for that matter
in other word, painful, but possible nevertheless

Windows can't live without a swap file, lol
It's not a pure swap file

you don't need a swap file for Linux unless you use hibernation (I intended to, but I don't)

Michel
09.08.2016
01:12:08
hibernation can be done to your hard no?!?!

Lesik

GNU/Linux'd be fine with 20GB (though it won't be much fun) but for Windows I'd plan like 80GB.

Swap is on your hard (drive). Both the swap file and the swap partition, whichever you choose, are on your hard drive. That's the concept of hibernation — dump the content of the RAM into a swap file or partition on the hard drive for continuous storage, to be able to power down the RAM (which loses its contents on power off).

Michel

so you can hibernate without a dedicated swap partition...

Lesik
09.08.2016
01:17:01
No, you either need a swap file or swap partition. Otherwise where is the OS going to dump the RAM content into?
You either need a swap file or swap partition.

Michel
09.08.2016
01:17:33
so the OS won't make a folder itself if it sees you don't have swap partition
