If a small set of packages from mate desktop is installed it will try to install the remaining that are not installed.

Do you see? on Installed groups: there is not appear mate-desktop-environment

So install it with: su -c 'dnf groups install mate-desktop-environment'

And then confirm to mark it as installed.

Or

su -c 'dnf group mark install mate-desktop-environment'

I prefer to install "install" again and then remove it.

But as you can see the Group-Id is mate-desktop

There is a different in the package set provided by mate-desktop and mate-desktop-environment

Since mate-desktop-environment provides a whole set of other groups required to work, I only recommend to remove mate-desktop instead of mate-desktop-environment

If it crashes, and something shows up on tty (you should check for it), you can just shot it using camera on phone and send here.

journalctl should keep running. But it will print messages sent to journal then they recieved.

That's why I ask you to try to log in using gdm. It should be on CTRL+ALT+F1.
