To the switch of my ISP

Sachin S.
17.09.2017
08:51:19
Are you sure it's a switch and not a router?

Yash
17.09.2017
08:53:35
Yes Because i can access my internet when im on Windows And when i run Fedora live i get this problem

Sachin S.
17.09.2017
08:53:54
That doesn't make it a switch.

Do you have this? https://n1.sdlcdn.com/imgs/a/p/h/Iball-Baton-300m-Mimo-Wireless-SDL249632885-1-ae52a.jpg

Look on the ethernet page for your current status

Google
Tobias?

Does it show "8.8.8.8" as dns? if not, edit and add 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 in the dns section, switch the box next to dns off and apply. then reconnect.

Yash

08:56:32
Okay Thanks

Tobias?
17.09.2017
08:58:10
And yes thats definitely a router/appliance stuffs - the problem is likely that your isp cant setup a network if his life depended on it or you have done something on windows to fake your mac address maybe?

Sachin S.
17.09.2017
08:59:31
Also, it's highly unlikely your ISP gave you a 'switch' for personal use.

Tobias?

Maybe they just pulled cables trough the entire house from one place and you can now connect to dhcp internal network trough the box in the wall? XD

No i haven't done anything with mac address
Well, did the dns thing work?

Not really, thats how my university network worked.

Sachin S.

09:05:18
University networks are always hacky man. This is an ISP xD

Tobias?
17.09.2017
09:05:52
And holy fucl were they retarded back then - routers and foreign devices were forbidden so i had to register my pc, put a there instead in "full nat, never let any broadcast in or out" mode with the faked mac.

Sachin S.
17.09.2017
09:06:22
That's painful just to read.

Oh no tu ilmenau had an awesome 10 gigabit uplink for everyone and we could freely use it on the campus - the infrastructure was quite decent.

10 gigabit, damn

Tobias?
17.09.2017

What wasnt decent was "drop all input" and "drop udp except 53" because of scared investors fearing torrents and us hosting servers and so.

Sachin S.
17.09.2017
09:07:59
* _ *

"drop udp except 53 and drop input" is the standard university thing.

They don't seem to like P2P and gaming

I'm running openvpn on port 443 multiplexed to nginx :P

Our mentors took a whole hour for the newbies to explain them how to get around it *cough vpn cough*

I'm running openvpn on port 443 multiplexed to nginx :P
i just use haproxy if someone is retarded enough to block udp - and then i can try aaaaaall the ports :3

After setting DNS, did you switch off ethernet and switch it on again?

I have no idea

Tobias?
17.09.2017
09:21:08
Oooooh your isp uses point to point connections.

And... you did not set up anything, at all?

Sachin S.
17.09.2017
09:21:30
PPPoE \o/

Isn't that strange?

Tobias?
17.09.2017
09:22:17
PPPoE \o/
I only do that on my firewall. 0 idea if fedora has that hidden anywhere.

Sachin S.
17.09.2017
09:22:50
You should probably talk to your ISP. This is by far the worst ISP setup I've seen.

Tobias?
17.09.2017
09:23:06

For that... are you really sure you never ever put in a username in any way shape or form.

PPPoE tends to need usernames and passwords to authenticate you against your ISP and in turn be billed properly. You should let a router/firewall handle that usually tough.

Sachin S.
17.09.2017
09:24:21
Did the ISP do some magic on your PC? This adapter seems to be configured.

Find the PPP adapter in your Network control panel and view the properties. The PPPoE credentials should be available somewhere there.

Yash
17.09.2017
09:26:51
Okay

Yash
17.09.2017
09:27:39
And he has locked my mac address

Sachin S.
17.09.2017
09:29:02
locked your mac address?

Tobias?
17.09.2017
09:29:04
He came yesterday and he configured it
Well, dont let them do that.
