No? whats wrong with shotwell import/copy&paste?
Shotwell regenerates all thumbnails on startup

that's something my CPU can't afford

too many pics and videos

It doesnt. Shotwell keeps stuff in either the xdg cache dir or ~/.cache, since 2011.

What it does on startup is load these thumbnails into memory. That may look like its regenerating them but it just needs to grab the from your harddisk - and since the previews are not too shabby it might look like regenerating on really old machine, together with the animation it uses.

Anyway, I can't afford it

I could if shotwell could be started at any folder

How?

It can
I would be very glad to learn this

shotwell filename in terminal will open the small version restricted to the current folder.

Fernando

00:31:27
Ah, yeah, sorry, I didn't explain myself

I meant something like «open in last visited folder»

I wouldn't like to start shotwell always from the terminal

Nor modifying the .desktop file, which is rewritten on updates

Also, I don't have a favorite folder

Just can't use the global view

I dont get how your pc can not possibly in any way cache the images.

It should open in milliseconds. Well maybe more but it should not take forever to display the first, what, 50 images?

Fernando

00:37:14
Well, the problem is that the whole process takes about 5' and the laptop overheats

Makes me think of the Streisand effect. ? Anyways, I'm not really that concerned since we talk about off-topic things a bit, so long as they're related to technology.

I don't think we have to police what people are posting and sharing for relevance all the time, which is why we don't punish people for talking off-topic. So long as it's relevant for the flow of conversation and not something blatantly irrelevant (like linking to random Twitch streams or porn), I'm not too concerned.

Hello and excuse my little English, I have been trying for some months to migrate from another distribution to Fedora. In general I have the whole system prepared except a mistake that confuses me too much to work with. After reading all the documentation found on systemd-mount and mount in different "wikis" and the "man" itself, I can not mount on the boot using "bind" as an option some dozens of linked directories (I usually have it right in my other distribution ). The problem is that it names by default as the name of the main partition on which the assembly is performed. I have tried many combinations of parameters, permissions, mount points, different syntax ... I'm tired of reading documentation and trying things out blind, not knowing where the error resides since in other distributions I've never seen a similar thing. Attached is a photo where it looks like it should be displayed and another one as shown in Fedora

If you want accurate information, you can go to fedora-mate irc channel at freenode and ping raveit65. He is one of the core mate desktop team.

On fedora you dont manually need to bother around in fstab.

open gnome disks and edit the mounting options.

That wil take care of editing fstab and crypttab with the proper parameters for you.

You can then of course read them and use them for manual editing later if you are so inclined.

The system partitions yes, besides these do not give me problems editing them in fstab manually. I get problems with directories mounted within directories, eg: / dev / sda1 / media / user / DATA ext4 defaults 0 0 / media / user / DATA / images / home / user / Images none bind 0 0

From gnome-software I can not manage this type of "links" inside the file "fstab"

I do not need to play system partitions. The system partitions are fine I need to create link from one directory to another

Unless that directory points to a drive then you use symlinks for that.
