if you're running a release, then yes, kernel and userland both. see https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/handbook/cutting-edge/#current

How do I upgrade to patch level zero (13.1-RELEASE-p0)? It's complaining about tier level. However, I am on amd64 hardware with 13.1-RELEASE which should be tier one, right?

Wow. I was going to install FreeBSD 13 on two servers... Could you please elaborate why it is nasty? Just to be aware of the pitfalls...
Manu
I don't understand... What's the problem? The new committer?

Where's the FreeBSD compatibility list for LAN? I'm trying to choose between Realtek and Intel LAN.

What else do you prefer? Linux is a huge mess. Illumos focus on correctness but also on legacy support, which isn't great for code quality either. OpenBSD is clean, but doesn't offer the features FreeBSD offer.

Why is Firefox not built with clang LTO? Also, process sandboxing feature is missing!!!???

or if you don't, change your OS.

Huh. I would. But my ssd is slow.

Not sure if already published (didn't found it with the search function): 20 Years of FreeBSD jails, from Michael W. Lucas -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3u8OtjfGFE

Something similar to this?

You meant the controller of services and daemons?
Anonymous
If yes, it's service(8).
Anonymous
or if you asking about apmd.
Anonymous
I would say, IDK anything about it on FreeBSD.
Anonymous
Check apm(8)
Anonymous
And we have apm service under /etc/rc.d/
Anonymous
It's /etc/rc.d/apm.
You should set apm_enable to YES in /etc/rc.conf file.
I would do sysrc apm_enable=YES

Anyone using NsCDE on FreeBSD? Decided to give it try yesterday since my laptop is so old and slow. It's quick and respensive. But I cannot seem to logout. The exit button on dock or in right-click menu don't work at all.
Joey
didn't they tell you it was a trap?

Are there any proprietary blobs into the kernel or the user-space of FreeBSD ?

And all this time I thought it was completely Libre...

Just a note: Linux community views ZFS as non-free, so most of the words in here can be misleading.

Some people view GPL as non-free license.

Hello folks. I'm coming up with a new pseudo-academic article on the history and origins of FLOSS Unix-like systems.
Would you re-read it and tell me what you think ? It's short.

I might publish it on my researchgate profile. At least that's intended.

Just found these posts when researching how to deploy a FreeBSD NAS with ZFS (currently running Debian, I'm new to FreeBSD)
Hope they are useful for somebody:

I'm really curious about DragonFly BSD, but first FreeBSD and OpenBSD... Next, maybe NetBSD and DragonFly BSD... Not enough time :(

I kind of bored on testing new things in my case

Have you written/discussed about this somewhere else that is accessible ?

Still thats still spamming to some extend

I believe I would tend to agree with you ... I am teaching myself C programming with a small program as a personal project.
I use st, surf, vi (no more ed), on OpenBSD.
Sylvain
So you would say that there's poorly written code in the BSDs of today ? I haven't consulted the cvs yet ...
Sylvain
And I'll get my own (point of view) in my own time. Thank you

Great! It's the only thing I have written about Unix for now, the rest is more abstract and philosophical. But I dream of teaching about technology in the humanities, trans-disciplinarity. I write for me and whom it may interest.
I'll let you know, I might update it on researchgate.

Minecraft 1.19.1 is well played on FreeBSD. but hard to fix errors. missed a lot libraries, all of them are ported. used TLauncher (AUR Version) to run the game, so it works.
