Where? allegations aren't proof
> same goes for other distros revolving around Ubuntu
A distro being based on ubuntu does not necessarily have limitations inherent to ubuntu, it has to be analyzed on a distro by distro basis

@scounixware when you asked me if i had ZFS in the drive before, do you perhaps have a fix? The advice i got didn't work
Jaco
I get the "ZFS: i/o error - all block copies unavailable" error when installing with GPT + UFS.
This is not a great laptop, i really need UFS to squeeze out performance
Anonymous
isn't zfs actually for machines with multiple disk
Anonymous
Jaco
It was usually around 1.4mb/sec when i had ZFS as filesystem
Anonymous
Actually ZFS should be faster?
Suraj
it's good
Anonymous
"Simple setups"?
K
For normal usage yes UFS is a very good choice.
If you are interested/need advanced features though, ZFS rocks

On NVMes, is it best choice for perf.?

that said, I am no dev and barely know anything about OS. just a *nix desktop user.

The two first comments is good and probably from FreeBSD user. Sadly, Classical post a comment... :-). About benchmark the important things is not to be the first (we can produce benchmarks where any OS is first) but where we need to improve performance in priority.
As a user, FreeBSD works in my laptop better than Xubuntu and Fredora.
Jackie
For me my 10 years old Nvidia card on my laptop surprisingly worked well on FreeBSD while not for Linux with proprietary driver when I tried Debian or Arch. But then FreeBSD didn't win when it comes to working with foregin removable disks in NTFS and exFat format. both in speed and stability.
