I don't have BSD yet, I'm waiting for thinkpad to arrive. So I can't give you one but I was using the one in Amsterdam or Frankfurt/Berlin while in Poland so it was slow.

I would like the packages to use torrent but the page is against it as the packages could get modified by a mischievous person.

Many vps services have transfer limits, while some in Poland don't. I wonder if 10GB or 30GB of disk space would be enough to host a mirror for FreeBSD.
Of course "we don't have transfer limit up to reasonable amount" but k

i was just about ti ask

but

smth rather sad here
Anonymous
getting some mirrors for freebsd would be as simple as a few emails to the relevant, well known OS mirroring people
Anonymous
makes me wonder if there's not been some sort of schism
Anonymous
honestly i was never a user but freebsd is

doesnt a lot of embedded hardware run it?
Anonymous
perhaps thats it
Anonymous
admins/mortals if you can give Geld and myself a few ballparks as to what it takes to host a BSD mirror

Shit load of things run bsd. Maybe even more than Java because Java has been stalling on 3 billion devices for the past 20 years
Anonymous
i have a lot of metal idling away, some plugged directly inot the freaking matrix with SFP
Anonymous

which is why theres a reason they are aparently the only OS project that literally has dead mirros
Anonymous
or live ones who actively arent freebsd mirrors now

Mirroring Packages Due to very high requirements of bandwidth, storage and adminstration the FreeBSD Project has decided not to allow public mirrors of packages.
Anonymous
great.
Anonymous
okay that solves it
Anonymous
FreeBSD i suspect has one very major userbase
Anonymous
Not in the private sector.

or they dont like what its become and want to be Ginsburg writing poetry on acid from now on

i'd go probably the first one
I will be honest with you. When I was trying out freebsd I was saving the packages prior to installing them, thinking to make a backup for myself (and maybe others?) so I won't need to download it again. Idea died.
Anonymous
do you want me to download a mirror for you :D
Anonymous
we'll call it the unofficial, no clearance pirate mirror
Anonymous
and it will be in holland (how big is this thing?) so you get to export crypto and everything
If I can hop on that train with my 500mbps Internet or a VPS then sure.
But no one will trust these packages man
