Are u using drm-kmod?
Anonymous
Its a screenshot from a pic opened in Gwenview. I 'pinked' out the window title

currently I use OpenGL 3.1 renderer in KDE compositor. Initially, I had problems using this setting with kld_list="/boot/modules/i915kms.ko"
Anonymous
now I'm using kld_list='i915kms' and it seems to work much better - except for those 'blackouts', which occur once in a while

Are u using drm-kmod?
I looked it up. Yes, I'm using drm-kmod!

For ThinkPad X270, the graphics are ✓ drm-next I duckduckgo'ed that it's some kind of a kernel driver. What does it enable? Like some Hardware acceleration? Do I need it if I don't/won't game?
./pascal.sh
You should use it
./pascal.sh
Its drm-next-kmod
./pascal.sh
But only if you have > skylake graphics (kabylake +) I think
./pascal.sh
Up to skylake it should work with drm-kmod since freebsd 12

What if I don't use/enable it?
./pascal.sh
Mh interesting my T580 has Kabylake Graphics (630) Its an i5 8350U and it works with drm-kmod

It seems that there's no such thing as drm-next anymore. I see drm-current-kmod, drm-devel-kmod, drm-legacy-kmod. So generally we can use the drm-kmod and maybe drm-current-kmod for newest hardware.

Just installed freebsd on a desktop machine. The fans are constantly running. Can powerdxx be used on desktops too in order to control fans or is there an specific way?
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Nvidia gtx 1060. I've installed nvidia-driver and loaded module but it doesn't seem to work. Xrandr only reports stock 1024*768 resolution
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Do I have to disable something like with amd ones? All I'm finding is that for most case scenarios just installing nvidia driver should work out of the box... It's a bit strange, I must be doing something wrong or lacking some pkg or conf
ɴꙩᴍᴀᴅ
Ahh there we go, a simple nvidia.conf in xorg specifying the propietary driver

for the computer security lovers, here I wanted to share a humble sniffer developed in python3, I hope you like it, if you like it, you can fork the project to play with python3, don't stop following me, sometimes I publish interesting things.
./pascal.sh
I developed a simple ZIP cracker, an SSH cracker, and a dos utility All in Python Some time ago
./pascal.sh
I developed a lot of stuff, also stupid and simple things haha Here is my gitlab https://gitlab.com/users/Pascal3366/projects

I have an ASUS Eee PC X101CH I want to install torrent deamon on it to seed peertube videos. It is pretty crap. Should I use Freebsd and manage to actually do something or should I yolo into OpenBSD and fail to even install the system, and even if I manage to install it, fail at everything else including software installation, and then install FreeBSD?
Geld [0/4💉] 🇵🇸 تحيا فلسطين
Because I know OpenBSD is more "restrictive" about packages, yes no yes?
./pascal.sh
Mh the transmission daemon can be a hassle to set it up. But I got it working under freebsd

Hey everyone, Can anyone tell me what the advantages and disadvantages of installing root on ZFS are?
./pascal.sh
Zfs allows RAID, deduplication, pooling, RAID levels and even trim for ssds
./pascal.sh

what resource would you recommend for learning about ZFS?
./pascal.sh
what resource would you recommend for learning about ZFS?
Maybe read the book absolute FreeBSD Zfs is also mentioned there
./pascal.sh
Yes But I never used ufs I just know that with zfs trim is automatically enabled for ssds
./pascal.sh
Thx
./pascal.sh
I meant I never used ufs not trim 😂 Was a typo
./pascal.sh
Uuuhhh nice hopefully we will get it also in freebsd
./pascal.sh
But wait ext2fs is nothing new Or is it an update to ext2fs ?

hello everybody
Anonymous
do you remember my kde-problem, which I described on 13th of July?
Anonymous
It happened again
Anonymous
today I was able to catch it with screenshots
Anonymous
wrote a little problem report:
Anonymous
baloo_file_extractor might cause this
Anonymous
Meanwhile, I'm pretty sure it has to do with this search tool
Anonymous
Since it is a regular part of KDE, I do not want to just disable it, but instead to find out about its optimal configuration
Anonymous
I have 2 baloo_flies in my home directory
Anonymous
baloo_file_extracto.core with ca. 36MB of size
Anonymous
and
Anonymous
baloo_file.core with a whopping 258,6 GB(!) of size
Anonymous
astonishingly, both files date back to Feb.20 (shortly after fresh installation)
Anonymous
95% of the time my freeBSD works just fine - those other 5% deal to a great part with this 'fading windows' topic
Anonymous
any hints welcome
Anonymous
thx
