if you want to boot to another os you also only need efibootmgr
Anonymous
which means it is essentially centralized among OSes
Anonymous
the boot menu also there provided by the mobo firmware
Keshav
Yep. efibootmgr is needed to be installed in at least one OS to hold the modified boot order and entries.
Anonymous
the downside of having rEFInd is that it's requiring two efi launchers which is kind of duplicating the same boot stage
Anonymous
because your efi firmware is one stage, rEFInd is another stage, but they are actually doing the same thing instead of booting into an OS
Keshav
I tested once with a rescue cd if the boot entries would hold with efibootmgr not installed. It didn't. That was fun 😙

freebsd is quite different to linux at the end in terms of boot phase as freebsd is having a beastie helping to load the elf image of kernel/kernel and some early boot driver such as kernel/zfs.ko into the virtual memory space, setting up the kenv and finally execute the elf image of kernel and go straight to mi_start(). All the stuff is already set up to be in long mode when you saw the lovely beastie on your screen
Keshav
Yep. A few days back i was reading the handbook(i printed it out because i've never seen anything documented in so much detail. Its nice and very very informative 🙂) about freebsd boot process and checking out boot directory. Man it is crowded there 😃 Not making fun of it. but i am actually quite mesmerized by the way things are kept. Thoughtfully separated and structured. For every boot stage, there are different files. And helper files are also there. Efi files are also in boot directory.

Long mode ?
amd64 hehe

thanks, otherwise I would have searched without finding

by the way, please ask your lawyer to what extent you can deal with the BSD-licensed code. Of course you are definitely free to make combined work with any BSD-licensed code
Anonymous
but you still need to reproduce the BSD license for your product distributed in binary form
Anonymous
actually it is safe to do so and unsafe otherwise
Anonymous
for anything not written in license in most juridism you are DISALLOWED to do so
Anonymous
this is how copyright work in most area...
Anonymous
for 2-clause BSD license there are two criteria you need to meet in order to agree on the terms:
Anonymous
1. Redistributions of source code must retain the above copyright notice, this list of conditions and the following disclaimer. 2. Redistributions in binary form must reproduce the above copyright notice, this list of conditions and the following disclaimer in the documentation and/or other materials provided with the distribution.
Anonymous
and the right you granted will be: redistribution and use of source code and its binary form
Anonymous
sorry could not understand what that really means
Anonymous
sorry could not understand what that really means
I mean i already knew this information
Anonymous
so you know it said clearly so
Anonymous
which means you are COMPELLED to follow what the license told you
Anonymous
Okay, since I figured out with the basis, I need to figure out a name for the freebsd distribution. Only what i could think out is "ApfelsineOS", and very banal AuroraUI

word "thou" used only as an appeal to god?
Lev
"you" - plural or singular, "thou" - only singular
Lev
"thou" is archaic(one may encounter it in some dialects)
Lev
obviously
Arminio
Thou shall not pass.

But I believe that's "shalt" then, not "shall".

After every reboot i have to configure the wifi
Have you set it up in rc.conf? Is wpa-supplicant set up?
Anonymous
Yes
TheWhyteCrow
Can you share the relevant lines of rc.conf and wpa-supplicant.conf?
Anonymous
Anonymous
TheWhyteCrow
This one is bad...
Anonymous
Yup
Anonymous
I got the solution and was able to fix
Anonymous
This one is bad...
Whats wrong with it??? Mistake was in rc.conf
Anonymous
And kernel was not loading the iwm module
TheWhyteCrow
Whats wrong with it??? Mistake was in rc.conf
I was convinced that "key-mgmt" is mandatory...
TheWhyteCrow
Your rc.conf looks a bit messy anyway - those wlan_* lines do nothing for you. And - of course - to load modules by rc.d is a bad idea as well. And double "L" in dbus line.
Krond
Meh…
