Uhm isn't freebsd 12 stable?
Mr.
I woukd be very thankful if anyone running touchoad with libinput shares their touchpad related xorg config here. 👍

./pascal.sh
Sorry man I am running Linux
JCV
Hi friends i need to run a script anytime some user login, using csh on .login file just run once what will be the best and correct option to do that?
Eliab/Andi
Hi mates, I'm running atm Debian Sid on my spare lap. I would consider to create a dual boot with FreeBSD. May it be a good idea
Eliab/Andi
?
Eliab/Andi
Ah okay that's an interesting idea that I haven't considered yet.👍🏼
Eliab/Andi
👍🏼
Eliab/Andi
I have still some doubts to ditch Debian and go to BSD fully
Eliab/Andi
yep, it's true. The only point is only one odd issue. Brother printer :D HP is no problem
Eliab/Andi
ah so I should print from my tablet or mobile ? At work as well? it's a bit complicated?
Mr.
Well it is official freebsd 12.1 has serious problem when it comes to touchpad.
Mr.
I manage to use libinput which caused arrow keys on laptop keyboard and usb keyboard attached to my laptop stop working.
Mr.
I managed to run my input devices with evdev driver instead of libinput. Which was ok but no tap to click or edge scrolling
Mr.
I couldn't to run it with synaotics despite my best efforts. No matter what synaptics didnt its job
Mr.
I am frustrated
Mr.
If you kniw any freebsd core devs please inform them if the sitution.
Mr.
Thanks ✌
./pascal.sh
Does someone know what I could do with a spare raspberry pi 4? I have no use for it currently 😂
JCV
Do you mean YES i need to use .login to call the script?
Eliab/Andi
+1
Eliab/Andi
btw mates, what were you reasons using BSD over linux=?
./pascal.sh
In the past I used freebsd on my laptop because I wanted to try something new. But I switched back to Linux because the graphics support / acceleration was much better and I needed software which freebsd doesn't have Currently I am planning to get a freebsd homeserver. Why freebsd and not Linux on the server? Because freebsd has a better network stack, better network throughput, better security features / hardening and also the availiability of zfs is a killer argument
./pascal.sh
Oh and can someone recommend me server hardware which works with freebsd? I was looking at a Dell Precision T1650 because I can get this decent machine for a low price. But I don't know how well it plays with freebsd
Eliab/Andi
In case of servers I haven't much experience 😊
./pascal.sh
OK for the printer issue it should be possible to just throw a raspberry pi in, connect it to the printer via USB, run Debian on it, install cups and drivers, share the printer over network and voilla no need to bother about printer drivers anymore
./pascal.sh
Mh but if the driver works per cable it should also work via network using cups or not?
Eliab/Andi
Eliab/Andi
I use Debian atm on my spare lap
./pascal.sh
Lol ok xD
Eliab/Andi
Although I like more BSD
./pascal.sh
I also like bsd more, but it lacks a few programs and suspend/resume wasn't that good working. Also graphics performance on skylake wasnt that good. now i have a kabylake processor + igpu i dont think that freebsd is going to work well on my thinkpad t580
./pascal.sh
Which programs e.g.? I guess Zoom isn't supported as an app or Discord. For sure, it can be used online but it lags of important features
yes applications like that for example. i use these often now. also a lot of applications for pentesting are often only availiable for linux distributions. At the time I was running freebsd not even telegram-desktop was availiable.
./pascal.sh
that's true; I don't know when telegram-desktop has been added on BSD; but what about OpenBSD?
openbsd is security wise maybe the best choice. But doesn't openbsd has even less software support?

openbsd is security wise maybe the best choice. But doesn't openbsd has even less software support?
Most of the software available in freeBSD is present on OpenBSD, but in older versions
./pascal.sh
ok
dapit
No telegram desktop on OpenBSD yet

Geld [0/4💉] 🇵🇸 تحيا فلسطين
Is there some limitation preventing Telegram to be on OpenBSD or just "no, because no"?
dapit
No because no one willing to maintain it
Eliab/Andi
Hmm but in theory like on FreeBSD someone could maintain Discord or Zoom?
./pascal.sh
Wouldn't it be possible to cross build the freebsd version?
./pascal.sh
Maybe the freebsd sources of telegram desktop can be also used for openbsd
Mr.
Freebsd recent firefix-esr which came out about 12 hrs agi sure crashes a lot. 😒👎
Mr.
Share
./pascal.sh
Mh why are you using Firefox ESR instead of normal Firefox?
./pascal.sh
If it crashed you can revert back to the old version Or you try to debug the problem and find out why it is crashing
Mr.
tap crashes not the whole Firefox. I don't know how to trace that?!?!
Mr.
normally it is a fault or mutex violation in the JS engine.
./pascal.sh
Pls check the about:crashes page and see if you find a bug report there
./pascal.sh
?
./pascal.sh
Oh OK I thought I said something dumb 😂😂😂😂

Sorry any one can help me in this os

Maybe he was already bored and aborted the mission because the path was not complete ... Who knows
./pascal.sh
I remember my first time on freebsd haha It was so different from Linux and I already had years of Linux experience But I did not give up. Instead I researched the net and read a lot of stuff. To remember all that and keep track of it I decided to write the blog about freebsd. All in all I had a great time on freebsd and I will run it on my home server which I'm going to get in the next days, probably

Everybody is all the time learning ... But when a guy is not able to simply shoot a question and ask for help before to know the problem bffff he need to focus
./pascal.sh
I just bought the refurbished dell t1650 and a 4TB Seagate Iron Wolf Pro 😁😁😁👍
./pascal.sh
GhostBSD has Telegram
OK since ghostbsd is based on freebsd you should be able to use the package
./pascal.sh
Can't wait to finally put my server to work :) Sadly the machine only has one network interface Mh i could throw in another pcie Ethernet card But I wonder if it would be worth it for using link aggregation. The Seagate iron wolf pro can read/write about 125MB/s I'm not sure what Gigabit Ethernet can transport at max. How much MB/s is one gigabit?
./pascal.sh
~110MB/s
OK that about fits the write speed of the iron wolf pro Perfect match :)
Jay
In theory its 1000mbit/8=125MB/s
Jay
But I never saw such speeds
./pascal.sh
Why divided by 8?
