Ah okay
It's all about marketing (and a bit of history as well?)
First, there was like 56kbps internet.
Kilo bits per seconds
56 000 bits per second.
Then 128,256,512 (512kbps was my first Internet connection speed)
And so, it would be less "wow" if the ads went " 7kB/s Internet wow! Buy today! We also got 16, 32 or EVEN 64kB PER SECONDDDRRRR!"
and so, it's 2020.
We got a (for example) 1 gigabit network cards, that transter 1 000 000 000 bits per second max.
But that's only 125 mega bytes per second.
I have 600mbps Internet.
At first, someone could say" shit, 600 megs per second? My disk isn't that fast. Only 100 megs per second read/write! I have to upgrade! "
Really? Well... Let's check.
It's 600 mega bits per second.
Your disk writes 100 mega BYTES per second.
There's 8 bits in 1 byte.
600/8=75 mega BYTES/sec
Your disk is fine.
Not to mention that it's always" up to 600mbps". It probably will be less.
It can even go the other way
If your disk writes 10mB/s, you cay say "pffff my disk writes 800 mega bits per second, beat that!"
Less "tech savvy" person would be fooled.
Let's not forget that you have not lied about the speed. 800mbps = 100mBps.
