hi guys, just an opinion the other day I was trying to play an audio CD with cdcontrol , a program that comes with fbsd and deals with controlling CDs. it has the play command to play from the CD but it doesn't work with OSS, it tries to play with the analog output of the CD player that is nowadays obsolete I think. so I almost finished to write a patch that enables cdcontrol to use OSS audio backend, the default on fbsd. do you think the patch will be appreciated or useless?

the same argument can be made on analog audio output from CD reader, it is obsolete now, why should it be the default on cdcontrol (and the only option nonetheless)?

I'm sure you're not the only one. It's true that it probably wont be used a lot since the flow is not to have cds anymore and many laptops and desktops don't have a cd reader anymore, but I think contributing to the tools is always welcome, I would submit the patch

I renamed the old play to analogplay and now play goes to OSS, and added rip that rips individual tracks or the whole disk

not true, the first BSD to support aslr was openbsd. freebsd does not have aslr, but it will be added in freebsd 13

Dima, let's me speak from my heart! Install debsecan on debian, then do debsecan --suite=buster(or stretch, depending on distribute), then you should cry, then update the system, do debsecan again, and again cry, then do pkg audit on FreeBSD, and feel the difference.
