GPL licenses as a family.
τaπ
I know there has been a heat going between v2 and v3 but v2 is outdated in many ways to I mean v3 in that sense.
τaπ
But in what point that makes sense?
τaπ
The bugs and vulnerabilities in the Linux kernel doesn't have anything to do with the license.

Everything has a start. We can discuss stuff peacefullyf you would like to.

Your nick was confident to me... Anyway, I got unexpected panic on my Samsung R540 laptop. On my opinion, it happens due to the RV710 GPU chipset. Anyone there with like experience? Any solution?

Hello guys,I have Gentoo Linux and I wanna install Freebsd I have few questions/: Can I compile all Linux packages on Bsd and what about binery ? and what about steam games
Anonymous
what programs do you need?
Bspwm qutebrowser vim telegram discord Nasm ...
mrphyber
I think that all are available, except for discord, I don't use it and I don't know if it is avaiable
mrphyber
at least there is the browser version if there isn't an app for fbsd
mrphyber
binary packages are available, you don't need to compile from source if you are good with default compile flags
mrphyber
use pkg for binaries
mrphyber
for sources there is the ports tree available with portsnap , refer to the handbook for more details
mrphyber
for steam games I really don't have an idea, I don't play games usually so I am not the best person to answer

ATI cards.. which FBSD version and which drm are present in your system? Did you update xorg or drm recently?
12.1-release, xorg from pkg, drm drivers compiled from ports (I have reinstalled pkg version after some crashes with the one from ports). I may check versions when I come home, but they are the latest.

Hello
Brommie
Guys, I'm trying to use https://github.com/ambrop72/badvpn/wiki/Tun2socks
Brommie
But it says that "TUN not supported on FreeBSD" - it there something I can do in this situation?

Radeon cards prior sea islands need to use drm-kmod, but as for 12.1 I think there are a specific drm-freebsd-12.0-kmod module. Also there's a legacy one. Which one are you using? Adding kld_list="/boot/modules/radeonkms.ko" to etc/rc.conf should be enough If you already tried the various drm packages and have set up etc/rc.conf then the panic needs some more dive into logs
mrphyber
for my Radeon RX480 amdgpu.ko did the trick
drm-freebsd-12.0-kmod from pkg

you may need to add to /boot/loader.conf : hw.syscons.disable=1 as I had to do. you will not be able to see boot messages until the graphic drm will be loaded

I get the info from here. All the amd gpus that I've tried worked with amdgpu.ko but I read that for gpus manufactured before 2013~ radeonkms.ko was needed

Is there a way to get a more recent libc++ version on FBSD? The base system ships clang6 with a matching libc++ version. Newer clang versions can be installed through ports, but no newer c++ library, it seems?

Sorry for linux question, but does anyone understand, what exactly shows command "dnf -q updateinfo list sec" in fedora linux? First, I thought that this is normal security audit, like "pkg audit" on FreeBSD and arch-audit on Arch Linux, but Fedora shows: FEDORA-2020-3f38f3e517 Important/Sec. zsh-5.7.1-6.fc31.armv7hl But, I have installed: zsh.armv7hl 5.7.1-4.fc31 So, what the fuck for this "sec" information?!
g
past ones, you need to update?
z4ck
past ones, you need to update?
You mean, that the command shows me fixed version in repository ready for upgrade?
g
yes
g
i think
g
last time i used it at least
z4ck
Hmm, looks like You are right, "dnf check-update" shows exactly the same version ready for update, well, not so bad. But system won't show me vulnerability, if there is no patched version in repo, right?
g
i think it does show
g
you're best subbing to the mailing lists
g
and grep'ing for all packages you have installed
g
that's what i do
z4ck
I've tried, they didn't answer me, ok, will do some tests. Thanks!
g
