12.2
2021-02: To use DRM with intel GPU in FreeBSD 12.2, drm-fbsd12.0-kmod needs to be built from ports: $ doas make install clean -C /usr/ports/graphics/drm-fbsd12.0-kmod
Mmmm
I use modesetting on /usr/local/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d card.conf

Back in November https://www.freebsd.org/releases/12.2R/errata/#late-news [2020-11-11] Due to slight changes to the ABI and KBI between FreeBSD 12.1 and FreeBSD 12.2, it is important to note that certain third-party kernel modules may need to be rebuilt locally, until FreeBSD 12.1 reaches end of life. That affects i915kms. Anyway, remove it from your system and reinstall using ports

afaik freebsd 12.1 has already reached eol and the 12.x build farm has been switched to 12.2
What happens in such case, lets say someone having12.1 server, and do pkg update/upgrade, what happens? The OS fetches the packages from latest FreeBSD release?
Anonymous
Or it remains at the same packages versions for 12.1 and never get updated?
mrphyber
the packages are going to be rebuilt only when a new version is avaiable
mrphyber
in 99.9% of cases, a package compiled for freebsd 12.1 is compatible with freebsd 12.2 so there's no need to rebuild everything
Anonymous
(And when you don't update FreeBSD to newer ver)
mrphyber
drm-kmod was an exeption as a little incompatibility slipped through
Anonymous
Actually what I wanted to ask is, if I remain at 12.1 and in the future I execute: pkg upgrade, would my OS fetch the latest packages available FOR 12.1, or it will always fetch the latest version for the latest FreeBSD release?
mrphyber
it depends on the package, if the package hasn't been updated for two years and let's say that the latest version was build for freebsd 12.0, you can run it through freebsd 12.4 for example
mrphyber
and as such the build farms are not going to rebuild it
