friends I have tried to install freebsd 12 2 and when restarting it does not detect the hard disk I have uefi
José
Disable secure boot and fast boot if any inside the bios
They are disabled, there is one that says CSM disabled it

to install with uefi freebsd does the partitioning automatically?
Eliab/Andi
José
I prefer ZFS
does partitioning do it automatically?
Eliab/Andi
does partitioning do it automatically?
yes there is the possibility
José
the question why does not start freebsd?
Eliab/Andi
the question why does not start freebsd?
nope this hasn'T anyting to do with it
Andriy
is it now possible in BSD ?
The point is to extend vhd with hypervisor tools and then tell fbsd to use new/added space.

Yes, got it. Been doing it now. I reckoned I could do it this way and u just told me the same thing. Thanks
Himanshu
Btw, do all the ports provided by FreeBSD have binaries also present in the repository.
José
Himanshu
pkg are made from ports
I thought maybe I'll build xorg from port, and man, it's taking tooo long. I can't have that much patience for only a tiny program.
Andriy
Hardware
You have to use right loader during installation. There is even fixed loader for Lenovo.
Mmmm
xorg a tiny program?
Maybe its his system (vhd) not a xorg port.
Rafa
He said he's building xorg from ports and that it's a tiny program. At least that's what I understood. That's why I'm a bit surprised. I (MHO) think xorg is not a "tiny program". And that's why I was asking ... maybe I misunderstood what he was saying.
mrphyber
I once compiled chromium and bathed in regret
mrphyber
Rafa
Wel xorg obviously is not a tiny program. It took hours to build from port with X230 8gig ram.
That's MHO too. I also have compiled it and it takes quite a long time (4 cores, 16 GB of RAM), physical, not VM.
Rafa
I once compiled chromium and bathed in regret
That also takes long to compile, just like Firefox, Thunderbird and LibreOffice ...
Rafa
are you talking about xorg-server or the whole xorg suite?
It's HS who said it was a time tiny program, not Coro
Mmmm

Hahahhaa... Firefox will take days to complete.
mrphyber

chromium took 20 hours on my machine, whereas firefox just about 2 if I recall correctly
Rafa

Firefox takes less time, but is still quite heavy. And I agree, Chromium takes a veeeery long time 😅
Mmmm
@krond Anw i still couln't boot, i have import zpool but still cant find /boot/zfsloader when booting. try to copy boot.efi from live cd to /boot/efi/bootx64.efi here is what i get
Mmmm
Krond
I think "setting currdev to zfs:zroot" means we reached boot2 and ready to read zfs root. But it might be missing required files. Do you have /boot somewhere on ZFS?
Krond
(Besides the one you deleted (my guess))
Himanshu
Hey guys, yes, isn't xorg tiny in comparision to KDE suite ?
Himanshu
Like I am not even thinking about building whole KDE suit when xorg itself is taking so long to build and install.
Badugar
xorg is a meta-package afaik
Badugar
xorg-server alone is small
Himanshu
Okay. Got it
Himanshu
xorg-server alone is small
Yes. I understand. My logic was "pkg install xorg" gives 194MB software binaries While "pkg install kde5" is around 2GB. So isn't xorg very tiny in this view.
Himanshu
So not just the system, all dependencies were adding to that extra space, I get it. But my idea was to install xorg and kde5 from ports, to see what happens. After xorg took so long being so small in comparison to KDE, I bailed on the idea.😂😂
Himanshu
I have to appreciate the handbook, everything is so well explained, it's like the author is explaining to his younger brother, I can see the love he's given to his job.
Rafa

The time some SW takes to compile also depends on the HW you're compiling on 😉. I've got 4 cores (AMD A4-5000), SATA drive and 16 GB RAM at home ... at work servers with: 96 threads and +300 GB of RAM with local SSD drives ... Not comparable the compile times 😉😅
Rafa
Personally, if you do not really need any specific compilation options, I wouldn't recommend it either. Use the binaries. If you are going to modify compiler options ... you better know what you are doing and why😉
Himanshu
Now I know to leave the compiling job to the experts with the bigger guns.
Himanshu
What is the least bloated KDE meta package for plasma desktop, Ktorrent Kate, Konsole, Ark, dolphin,KDE connect Okular, gwenview, skanlite. How do I go about it ?
Himanshu
Should I install plasma5 only and then proceed to install these apps separately, or should I install the frameworks meta package first.

Can U help me? Pls, send me admin's id. Thank you.

Banned too? 😉
Andriy
Admins are not very polite there 😉

To us ukrainians? Nah, they are using Combot with inactive user autokick.

Yep, i can only guess that its the root cause. Too politicized 🤦🏻‍♂

😂 вы, вероятно, должны спросить это "x"
Himanshu
Friend, were u a windows or Linux user before moving to BSD ?
Himanshu
Okay

Himanshu
So BSD feels good enough
