The freebsd documentation (I think) says that people don't use operating systems. They use applications. A lot of people actually don't care what OS they have, as long as it gets the job done (supports the applications they need) :)

We have a huge ecosystem of great software to get things done here

It's true that Photoshop, Word and Skype aren't part of the menu. But for those specific cases there are great alternatives. If someone stills not convinced to use the alternatives, is free to use the OS and applications they desire, no one is forced to use a specific OS (:
