Then in etc/rc.conf add
pf_enable="YES"
pf_rules="/etc/pf.conf"

yep :D

thanks my friends
Stéphane
Very thankful for FreeBSD this instant
Stéphane
I have to compare perf for unbound as a cache for an ISP, between ... Debian 8 and FreeBSD 12
Stéphane
Debian stops answering on one IP around 80-90k packets per second and loses packets
Stéphane
FreeBSD keeps asking for more at 500k

Yeah, management wouldn't let me tune the NIC on Debian
Stéphane
Ring buffers, queue, etc
Anonymous
yes i know ive been there :) dubious pleasure that it is
Stéphane
And also
Stéphane
Unbound has 16 cores to use
Stéphane
16 threads
Anonymous
im quite interested in FreeBSD's performance next to Linux when it comes to handling lots of small packets
Stéphane
But CPU usage doesn't go beyond 4 cores
Anonymous
as in ive been playing with PF_RING recently, a little
Stéphane
Also, on Linux, the socket layer seems to die -> listen on 1.2.3.4:53, 6.7.8.9:53
Stéphane
Overload 1.2.3.4, that IP stops answering
Stéphane
The others live
Stéphane
Though that quirk may be unbound's
Stéphane
Also when doing monitoring queries with smokeping on both IPs
Stéphane
Linux has all IPs degrade perf when it's about to die
Stéphane
FreeBSD doesn't so much as whimper
Stéphane
Query answer time is near constant
Stéphane
Linux is more all over the place and subject to fluctuations
Anonymous
sry phone :) momen
Stéphane
Same here
Stéphane
Besides, Debian here is... Debian 8 on a Linux 3.16 kernel :(
Stéphane
Again, because management refuses to upgrade because 8 is qualified, and alternatives are untested :)
Stéphane
Now problem is, Debian 8 has reached end of life and they HAVE to move to something else but have no formalized process the honchos will agree on :)
Anonymous
sorry back :) hah where linux got all trigger happy with their versioning, 3.x seems a very long time ago :)
Anonymous
ive found that even on a beautifully tuned system the linux kernel wont handle more than ~1.7 million pps, not without some sort of kernel bypass like netmap or pf_ring or the like
Anonymous
which you only really get to when you start talking about more than 1gbps @ line rate so its not a limitation that most people are going to ever run into
Anonymous
im interested to see how freebsd does under similar conditions, and i tried it briefly on a VM but with very unfavourable results all round from BSD so i thought I'd reserve judgement until i had it running on proper hardware
Anonymous
has anybody else experienced something like this btw? FreeBSD just crawling on a VM?
Anonymous
honestly it was bad enough that the issue had to be my end

I'm trying to activate compiz and emerald in mate Desktop. my PC is using Intel drm driver
Anonymous
But it's not possible. Maybe it's necessary to add some custom configuration in xorg conf

Any help... Please

Anybody running brother printer mfc 4620dw?
Eliab/Andi
Brother provides only Linux firmware

glxgears how i love thee
It runs ok but when you try running compiz manager it crashes, promoting glx module is not loaded. I think Intel HD graphics driver is not working in compiz
