as of now, only drm-kmod and xorg packages should be installed (no xf86-bla-bla installed) and it should work (starting with 12.0)
TheWhyteCrow
Localization has nearly nothing to do with xorg. Just to set xinitrc correctly.
Arminio
You can just use setxkbmap from .xinitrc
Arminio
Then something in your WM startup files sets these or something, that's not normal. You should be able to execute this as the first command in your xinitrc. However, if that problem persists, a workaround might be something like
(sleep 3; setxkbmap de) &
in your xinitrc so first your WM starts and executes that and 3 sec later on you got fixed keyboard layout at least so you can at least debug further with the right one.

is this a normal description?

U have os ready or it is still in your mind?

With linux/Ubuntu supporting zfs, is there a compelling reason to stick with freebsd? Apart from being a bsd purist

no, it's not. systemd is most of the time just a purist thing and so is history, pure and fresh system. Debian asks you if you want to keep your config/update/merge. And what do you mean by "dont you know benchmark?" and "do you know freebsd foundation?"?
Arminio
Arminio
It's as simple as that, really.

Actually my current system is a freebsd. While I like the wholesome approach - I also dislike the that many of the packages have no maintainers. Re architecture - probably a niche that you're referring to? Pkg managers are fairly OK on both for the average user I guess. But I do need to read up about systemd, will soon hopefully
hereforyou
It's quite a pain to troubleshoot wifi,Bluetooth and the like. But yea the argument would be that it gets a person to better understand how things work - but does the average Joe really need to? So both usability and proficiency are a consideration

Hello. I have windows 10 and void-linux on my hard disk. And I want to install freebsd alongside with them. What's the best approach to do it?
Vladimir
Which bootloader do you use to load os'es?
Vladimir
Just check if it's capable to load bsd
Vladimir
I would use separate physical disk for each os, but that's up to you

Vladimir
Solution: buy another one 😂

😂👌
Vladimir
Works as well
hereforyou
Grub
That should be sufficient I guess. I remember dual booting freebsd and a linux system. Just required some changes to be made in the menu to select - manually
Vladimir
But grub will be more convenient
Anonymous
Vladimir
try os-prober for grub
