I think it's a matter of usage patter you or me are used to. I was never a fan of macs but now I use them because there is no other system that allows you to focus on the things you do instead of installing drivers, tuning systems,etc

I tried to use bsd for desktop once and it was a failure because nearly half of my hardware wasn't working

Bsds are great as core for network appliances so let them own that domain
