newly-released Lazarus 4.0 on ReactOS
Mike
can someone try on 64 bit ros?
Chungy
is there a bootable image for it?
Stas'M
Yes
Julen
I will try on it, asap.
Julen
Bring me 5 seconds and I will do a PR for rapps-db :D
Chungy
there is a bug where the child process won't exit and the OS can't be shut down

newly-released Lazarus 4.0 on ReactOS
https://t.me/free_pascal/73
Chungy
I should formalize that in a bug report.
Jose
last time i tried it was several days ago with 4 RC3 under 32 bits and run OK.
Jose
I dont know for 64 bits. There is some ReactOS 64 bits that runs ok virtualized with QEMU to try it?

good question, I tried to download the latest x64 nightly and it doesn't boot
Chungy
COM port keeps printing this
Chungy
otherwise, just a black screen after the boot loader
MethanoVicky
COM port keeps printing this
me too but i remember that x64 can only be debugged with windbg?
MethanoVicky
but removing debugger cannot allow booting
Chungy
maybe an older nightly works, but yeah I don't know what will
Chungy
Conversely :)
MethanoVicky
also it seems that x64 cannot be installed into btrfs
Victor
COM port keeps printing this
this means the image can only be debugged with windbg
Chungy
So it can't boot without being attached to WinDBG?
Victor
it can if you don't choose debugger option during boot
Chungy
There's no choice offered.
Chungy
"Switching to long mode" then the "Loading ReactOS Setup" progress bar, that finishes then black screen forever
Chungy
explain how?
MethanoVicky
explain how?
do not specify this option when booting qemu?
MethanoVicky
not sure
MethanoVicky
i use vbox
Chungy
no?
Chungy
I just qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -hda ros.hd -cdrom reactos-bootcd*.iso
MethanoVicky
Chungy
It seems I can append -serial none
Chungy
nice. still unbootable :D
Chungy
alright changing to FAT works
Julen
Yep, btrfs is failing A LOT
Chungy
That installer is 32-bit, it seems.
Chungy
I can probably copy over a preinstalled c:\lazarus tree.
Chungy
given its portability, I'd be somewhat surprised if it depends on registry entries, but it could. :p
Julen
7zip and unzip it.
Julen
Let me chekc.
Chungy
that's.... kind of what I did, in a roundabout way?
Chungy
I jsut mounted the image and cp -a from a fresh install I made in wine.
Julen
Actually, I had your bug with the "debugging experience if you close the window" and it's impossible to end it.
Chungy
Chungy
you can compile 32-bit programs on it too
Julen
Yep, it can crosscompile.
Chungy
mhm
Julen
I think ARM too.
Julen
IIRC.
Chungy
on Windows XP, building and debugging a 32-bit EXE (this is just the blank form template, but it is a program nonetheless)
Chungy
Task Manager's *32 indicates a 32-bit process rather than 64-bit.
Jose
Some 64bits .iso version that really boots virtualized? all times i tried to boot with virt-manager/qemu failed.
Mike
usually with virtualbox most of them work, albeit not totally perfectly
Chungy
I like to use QEMU because it's simpler apparently you need to pass -serial none to get ReactOS x64 to boot
Jose
Where can i pass it? to qemu?
Chungy
yeah

Wasn't there a crowd funding for a crazy server OS that could run Linux and Windows apps, all based on ROS and some not yet developed tech that would make Linux and ROS live together kinda like WSL does nowadays? It was like maybe 7 years ago now...
